Sydney builds her first Telescope

I’ve always liked astronomy ever since I was little.  I like to point out the different constellations. My favorite is the Little Dipper, although it is a simple one, I like it the best.

So my Dad and I decided to make this website to show everyone how we will build my telescope.  Maybe other kids will build telescopes with their parents.

We used two main sources of information:

  1. The book The Dobsonian Telescope, which is primarily about very large telescopes, but has a great chapter detailing how to build an 8” dobsonian.

  2. Stellafane website on Building a Dobsonian Telescope.   Stellafane is a famous convention of amateur telescope makers held in Springfield, Vermont every summer.

It’s Working!

And keep a watch out for more blog entries as we use it and take it to public skywatches.

Sydney was inspired by an amazing aurora display that we saw in New Hampshire in the fall of 2003.

And at age one she said, out of the blue, “Must see the Moon.”

Lastly, her Dad enjoys astronomy and enjoys showing her Saturn, the Moon, nebulae, and star clusters.
