I selected 1951 for a year run because I first started noticing license plates in that year when my family commenced transisting the US from California to Georgia. By 1960 we had driven across country ninteen times. Prior to 1955, plates varied in size from state to state. Especially noticable were the Tennessee plates that were shaped like the state. Kansas was another one that was cut to match the outline of the state. Montana and Wyoming were interesting because of their size and design. The plates displayed are in approximate scale relation to each other. Note the differnce in length of the two Kentucky plates; often, lengths were variable with the number of numerals used. Only a 51 DE year tab is needed to complete this collection. Updated: 09 Feb 05. Comments, questions, or trades proposals: contact me at moore.vb@verizon.net
