Mothers & More celebrates the diversity of families

April marks the end of my year-long term as a co-leader of the Charleston Chapter of Mothers & More. I thank the women who have provided me with support, interesting ideas, and companionship.

When I came to this group, I was new to motherhood and new to staying at home.

I had always thought of myself as a career woman and I was struggling with my new identity as a stay-at-home mom.

At Mothers & More, I joined a playgroup with children the same age as my daughter, and moms who made similar transitions between working, staying home and maybe moving back into some combination of work and home.

I received so much support, I felt inspired to give something back by taking on the position of co-leader.

In the past year, I have made many new friends, developed leadership skills, and had fun and insightful evenings out with other women. My daughter has made good friends in our playgroup. I've been involved in our book club, social outings, community service activities and more.

I have learned a lot about the diversity of women in how they approach motherhood, working, not working and balancing life in general. This group has been by my side to celebrate the everyday pleasures of raising a family and to bear the disappointments as well.

I welcome new co-leader, Amy Weintraub, who will join present co-leader Susanne Coffield. I look forward to her leadership in our vibrant, growing chapter.
