Mothers & More Member Lori Dubrawka wins V100 Woman of the Week
V100 Radio of Charleston, West Virginia, Wednesday October 10, 2001

Charleston Chapter Founder and outgoing Leader, Lori Dubrawka, was nominated for Charleston station V100's "Woman of the Week" contest. And she won! It was great timing as that very night was our chapter's one-year anniverasary celebration. Deejay Denise Daniels read the letter on air and then interviewed Lori -- it was like a 5-minute add for Mothers & More. Lori and our chapter were pluggedmany times throughout the following week.

Here's the nomination letter:

Dear Denise Daniels,

A year and a half ago, I met a wonderful woman, Lori Dubrawka, who has had amazingly positive impact on my life. I had given birth the year before to my first baby and had decided not to return to my job. Soon after, my husband and I relocated to Charleston where I had no friends or contacts. Although I loved my son dearly, I felt socially isolated and was beginning to feel depressed about being at home all the time with an infant.

Then, through an acquaintance I met Lori. Lori was spearheading an effort to start West Virginia’s first chapter of Mothers & More right here in Charleston. This is an organization supporting sequencing women – mothers who have altered their career paths in order to care for their children at home. In starting the group, Lori virtually rescued me, and many others, from the social isolation and frustration we were dealing with as we "sequenced" from busy professional careers to being stay-at-home moms.

Under Lori’s leadership and guidance, our group has become a dynamic place for moms to turn to for their personal needs and interests. Lori also led us in becoming contributors to the Kanawha Valley: We held a summer camp information fair, have nominated family-friendly businesses and services, and have participated in a plethora of other community service activities.

Besides this group Lori expends untold amounts of energy on other meaningful endeavors in her life. She’s an amazing mom to her son, Toby. She is an important leader in her church, especially in the children’s religious education department. She’s one of the organizers of Creative Capers, the famous arts camp for kids. She is a volunteer at her son’s school. She is a Reading Specialist who tutors Kanawha County students and helps them reach their potential in the classroom. And she’s the first person to write a card to a sick pal or take a casserole to the family with a new baby.

Lori is a wonderful role model for everyone, but especially for those of us with young children. She’s also a terrific friend.

It is my privilege to nominate Lori Dubrawka as V100’s Woman of the Week.

All good wishes,

Amy Weintraub
