MUPD MissionMessage from Chief Richtscheit:

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Mount Union Police Department's Official Website. While the website deals primarily with our K-9 Unit activities, you will also find general departmental information within the site. I have been a police K-9 Handler for over twenty years and I have handled three police trained K-9's in my career. I fully appreciate the value of a K-9 Unit to a police department.

The Mount Union Police Department
has the good fortune to have three K-9s in the unit. I would like to thank Corporal Rob Lippmann
for taking the time to set up this site so that we may share this valuable information with the general public.

In my opinion, the most effective use of the police K-9 is to act as a deterrent to a violent suspect that may think about becoming aggressive toward police officers in the process of a criminal apprehension. Although I am not aware of any such statistics, my experience has proved to me that the presence of a police K-9 can greatly reduce the chance of the possibility of injury to either a police officer or a suspect.

The police K-9's are valuable tools in detecting the odor of illegal drugs,
tracking the scent of criminals or lost subjects, and locating suspects in a variety of hiding places while providing the element of surprise and greatly reducing the chance of injury to a police officer.

I hope that you will continue to visit this site for current information and trends with relation to police K-9 activities and we invite your questions and comments.

Sincerely,

Chief Nick Richtscheit

Department Profile

The Mount Union Borough Police Department is a municipal police agency that serves the citizens of the Borough of Mount Union.  Our primary mission is service to the public.  The Mount Union Borough Police Department patrols the incorporated area of the Borough of Mount Union, which consists of approximately one and one half square miles.

The Mount Union Borough Police Department is led by a full-time "working" Chief, meaning that our Chief is responsible for patrol duties as well as the administration of the department.  The Department also employs two full-time officers, including a Corporal that serves as the Patrol Division Supervisor.  Additionally, the Department is staffed by several part-time officers.

The Department is also fortunate to have several specialized units, including a K-9 Unit consisting of three patrol/narcotic dogs as well as a SCUBA team that is responsible for evidence recovery from underwater.
