Bert

Willy (formerly Leon), Sugar and Marta

Bert - 1 year old male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Bert was rescued from an over crowded high kill shelter. He came in as a stray with Ernie (below) during 4th of July. We suspect Bert and Ernie were litter mates... they both have "bat ears" (natural ears that stand up) and natural tails. Bert is a little camera shy so his ears are layed back in the photo. Bert is super sweet a very submissive boy. He is good with other dogs and is super affectionate. Bert weighs approximately 16 pounds.

In Loving Memory of Marlies H. Novelli

Bailey - 3 year old female purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Bailey was given up by her owners because they had a baby and "had no time for her". Bailey is a tiny little girl probably was sold as a "toy" schnauzer (there is no such breed)... she weighs less than 9 pounds. We had a dental done on her when we had her spayed and 5 teeth had to be extracted, she feels much better now :) Bailey also has some digestive problems and requires a special diet. Bailey is a sweet girl that gets along well with other dogs.

Allen

Allen - 2 year old male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Allen was rescued from a high kill shelter.. he was picked up as a stray, but he did come in with a "chop job" of a haircut. The shelter figured the people who brought him in "as a stray" were actually his owners. Allen is very thin and needs some fattening up... other than that he is a young healthy boy. Allen gets along well with most other dogs (prefers dogs his size). He is friendly happy go lucky boy. Allen is currently 16 pounds but needs to put on a few pounds.

Dash
Sponsored by
Michele and her Walter!

Dash - 6 year old male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Dash is blind... he was rescued from a high kill shelter where his owners dumped him "because he was sick and went blind". We were relieved that his blindness is NOT due to diabetes. We had a full blood panel to ensure there were no underlying problems. Dash then went to an ophthalmologist who evaulated him and concluded his blindness is due to retina degeneration most likely was hereditary. Not to worry because his blindness doesn't worry Dash, he has quickly adjusted and learns the lay of the land. He is doggie door trained! Sadly Dash had been adopted right before Christmas but was returned a couple of months later. Dash needs a patient and committed adopter who understands blind dogs and will give him a fair chance to adjust. Dash is a bit of a bigger boy at 28 pounds.

DeeDee

Kit, Greg & Chloe
In Loving Memory
of their friend Steve Harris

DeeDee - 8 year old female purebred Miniature Schnauzer. DeeDee was rescued from a high kill shelter where she was at for 3 weeks. She came in as a stray and her owner was contacted and never came to get her. The shelter had her listed as 4 years old but we think she may be a bit older. She may also have a little mix in her as her body is a bit long for a schnauzer... she does however have a docked tail and cropped ears and was undoubtably sold as a purebred Miniature Schnauzer when she was a puppy. DeeDee is super sweet and very quiet. She's a tiny girl at about 10 pounds.

Oreo - 2 year old male Miniature Schnauzer/Bichon? mix. Oreo was rescued from a city shelter. In his shortlife he had already become a two time loser :( He was surrendered to a shelter at 6 months of age and adopted. Then his adopter returned him to the shelter after a year later. We sent him to our trainer for an attitude adjustment.. he now he's Mr. Marshmellow (pun intented). Oreo is cute as a button and eager to please. He LOVES other dogs he plays non stop! Boomer - 4 year old male Jindo mix. Boomer is a Rare Black Jindo mix and is available for adoption to a loving forever home! Boomer was found on the grounds of a high school looking for water and something to eat. Boomer had injuries on two paws and some scrapes on his face and hind leg. Our vet said he should recover okay with some tender loving care and good food. He didn't have a collar but had a microchipped, when we contacted his owner he indicated he no longer wanted him and relinquished him to us. Boomer is a sweet boy and gets along with other dogs and probably cats too. When he was getting a much needed grooming he totally ignored the cats. He weighs 35 pounds and is full grown.

Hamlet is approximately 25 pounds.

Kiwi - 2 year old female Terrier mix. This tiny dog was found roaming the streets. She was scared at first, didn’t know who to trust, and as a result, was defensive and nippy, making rescue difficult. However, it was obvious that she wanted to be rescued off the streets because she followed people around the neighborhood as they went on their walks. If anyone tried to reach out to her, though, she would turn and run away. Finally, she came across a lady who was working in her garden. Kiwi was very hesitant, but after some time, she went up to the lady and eventually jumped into her lap! Kiwi is very affectionate and demands love and attention. She is a bit nippy with strangers, but once she is assured that the stranger can be trusted, she’ll be a total love bug. Kiwi gets along with other dogs and loves to play. She does not get along too well with cats. We do not recommend her going to a home with small children. Kiwi is not housetrained. Kiwi is full grown and weighs about 7 pounds.

Bashful - male shepherd/great dane mix pup. DOB 6/5/2010. Bashful, was born in the back of a pickup truck on the freeway. He was the first born of the four pups who survived the ordeal, five didn’t make it. His mom either sat or stepped on him within the first couple weeks as he was limping at 2 weeks old. It was determined his right pelvis was broken and as a result his right pelvis is dislocated which may be affecting the nerves in his hind legs. He is doing good now but may require future medical intervention of some kind. He is a very loving boy and likes to be petted and chase tennis balls. He is going to be a big boy when he grows up – at 5 months he weighed 60 lbs! So he could weigh close to 100 pounds or more when full grown. We are accepting applications for Bashful but he needs to go to a loving home that has the resources to care for his future needs. He has had several sets of x-rays to monitor his growth plates and development. Please make a donation help with his medical bills. If you are interested in adopting Bashful please fill out the application for our review and consideration. If we determine you may be a match we will set up an appointment for you to meet him and talk with his foster mom.

Smidge and Smudge - 1 year old male Terrier mix pups. Approximate date of birth 9/19/09. Smidge and Smudge were found in a plastic crate along with the trash on the curb in Downtown LA right before Thanksgiving when they were only a couple months old. They were nearly hairless due to excessive scratching. Their tiny bodies were plagued with mange. Fortunately, this condition was easily treatable, but required two months of quarantine from other animals until the mange was gone. When their skin scrapings came back negative and they got a clean bill of health from the vet, they were finally able to interact with dogs, cats, and people.

Smidge is a little shy at first, but he warms up to people pretty quickly. He likes being next to people and loves being petted – definitely a lap dog. He is affectionate, eager to please, and loves getting treats. He is not as vocal as his brother. He is nearly housetrained, but will need minor additional work. He is also crate trained. Smidge weighs 14 pounds.

Smudge is also a little shy at first. He is more social with other dogs, and will boldly go up to big dogs that try to shoo him away. He loves to play fetch with a soft toy and always outruns his brother to retrieve it. If anyone approaches your porch, Smudge will be the first one to let you know. Like his brother, he is nearly housetrained, but will need minor additional work. He is also crate trained. Smudge weighs 13 pounds

While we'd LOVE for Smidge and Smudge to get adopted together... we will however consider separating them for the right homes.

Ralphie - 2 year old male terrier mix. Ralphs was rescued from the streets. He’s a handsome boy who looks a lot like Petey, the “Our Gang” dog. The original Petey was a pit bull, and Ralphie probably has some pit in him, mixed maybe with Jack Russell and who knows what else. He is affectionate and loyal; he likes human company and LOVES being petted. He’s obedience trained and walks very nicely on leash in addition to being a well behaved passenger in a car. Ralphie is very alert to (and anxious about) changes in his environment, so he will do best with a regular routine in a calm home. Because he’s particularly upset by the high pitched voices and unpredictable movements of little kids, he’ll be happiest with adults and well behaved teens. Ralph is full grown at 45 pounds.

Dolly - 2 year old female Staffie/Beagle mix. Dolly rescued from an irresponsible owner. She is an unusually good-natured dog who is super-friendly. She’s submissive with other dogs, and very playful - she loves running (and being chased) on the beach or at dog park. Because she is so easy-going and affectionate, Dolly would make an excellent “starter dog” for a family looking for its first pup, although she’s probably too energetic for pre-schoolers. She is crate-trained and house-broken, and knows basic obedience. Dolly is full-grown and lean at about 40 pounds.

Rose - 2 year old female Lab mix. Rose was rescued as a tiny puppy from the gutter of a dangerous South Central street. She has been well-socialized with people and dogs and is friendly and eager to interact with both. With humans she is affectionate but not needy; with dogs, dominant but not aggressive. Rose is a confident, smart, curious girl who gets along well with other dogs on leash and at dog park or beach, but can be bossy with her foster-siblings at home. She aced obedience classes, did very well at Agility I & II, and manifests her Lab heritage by her enthusiasm for swimming and retrieving! Really, she has almost unlimited potential for an adopter who is looking for an intelligent dog with athletic abilities. Rose is a slim, muscular adult at about 50 pounds.
