| Violet -
5 year old purebred female Miniature Schnauzer. Violet and Ivy (below) were rescued from a puppy mill where they’d spent their whole lives living in a small crate and having babies (even today they still prefer to be in a crate, as it is all they have known). Before we rescued them neither of the girls had ever been taken for a walk; in fact they’d never even been on a leash (we’re working on leash training as well as house¬breaking). Ivy and Violet are very sweet, but because they’ve had so little interaction with people they’re skittish and hesitant with their un¬familiar freedom. We are working on socializing the girls before they are ready for a home. Both girls will require a patient loving home but we are sure they will give TONS of love in return. Violet is approximately 23 pounds.

| Deana -
7 year old purebred female Miniature Schnauzer. Deana was rescued from a high kill shelter where she was available only to rescue because she gave the vet tech a hard time. We've found her to be a sweet girl who was probably just overwhelmed in a shelter environment. Deana is very much overweight... we are working on slimming her down. She is also currently being treated for urinary tract infection but should be available in a couple of weeks. Deana currently is 22 pounds but should be 15.

| Annie -
1 year old female Miniature Schnauzer mix. Annie was rescued from an overcrowded high kill shelter, her time was up. She had kennel cough and was subdued when we got her, but now she's "waking" up and full of energy. Playful sweet gal that gets along great with other dogs. We had a hard time getting a photo of her (mostly we had pictures of the floor because she was gone in the snap of the camera). Annie has a natural tail and natural ears and weighs approximately 11 pounds.

| Henry -
2.5 year old male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Henry was dumped by his owner at a kill shelter. We have found Henry to be affectionate, sweet and friendly boy who loves people. He gets with most dogs (he's a little dominant so as long as the other dogs aren't dominant they're fine). Henry is NOT cat friendly he'd like them for lunch but not as a date! Henry LOVES dogpark! Like many of the dogs in rescue Henry needs obedience training but has been responding well in his foster home. He is very energetic and requires a home with a secured fenced yard. Henry was approximately 28 pounds. Special Thanks to Whiskers N Tails for Generously Donating Grooming and Boarding for Henry!
Henry was BocMeow's Foster Dog for October!!!

Sparky - 4 year old male purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Sparky was rescued from a high kill shelter that was very much over crowded where he was dumped by his owner. We suspect Sparky might have ended up at the shelter for not being so good with kids as we found Sparky needed a bit of an attitude adjustment. Sparks spent several months at boot camp where he has fully been retrained as well as beautifully obedience trained. Sparks is an intensely loyal dog who would make a wonderful companion, he does however need an alpha owner to remain a well balanced dog. He is playful and great with other dogs. Loves dogpark! Sparky is approximately 23 pounds.

Special Thanks to South Bay Doggie Day Care for Generously Donating Training for Sparky!
Sparky was BocMeow's Foster Dog for August!!!

Jasmine - female shepherd mix pup. Approximate DOB 11/1/2008. Jasmine is the last of 7 pups (all the others have been adopted). We were born to our poor Mom who has lived her entire life in the back yard which is where we lived until a rescue volunteer saw the sign saying we were all going to a high kill shelter if someone didn't take us immediately. Boy it was cold out there but Mom kept us as warm as she could and now we are in a nice warm home. Thanks to the volunteers we now have a chance to find a good forever home where we will be loved and nurtured and be a real part of the family - not banned to the back yard like Mom! If you are ready for a nice warm, cuddly, curious, always into something puppy - please fill out an application to adopt me.
There is some bad news concerning Jasmine and one of her brothers. They have been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Jasmine has no hip socket on one side and the other is almost non-existent. She is scheduled for surgery this month for the worst side and will have surgery on the other hip next month. The doctor thinks she will make a full recovery since she is so small.
Her surgery costs are estimated to be $1000, please help with her medical bills by making a donation today.

Chole - 2 year old female Border Collie/Corgi mix. Another owner turn-in - they got her when she was a very young pup and then she started to grow! They were going to take her to the pound as they had no more use for her and a good Samaritan intervened and turned her over to us. She needs a good stable home as she is a sweet heart and just needs love and guidance to feel secure. However, she is extremely active – true to being a border collie she has more energy then she can handle on her own. She needs someone to share activities with her like a couple of good runs every day. If left to her own devices trouble is sure to ensue. Chloe has been adopted and returned due to just that. She tends to be a little dominant with other dogs but is now living with a pack and getting alone well. She's not the best with cats so will not go to a home with cats. Chloe is full grown and approximately 35 pounds.

Sasha - 6 year old female purebred Silky Terrier. Sasha was rescued from a high kill shelter where she had been dumped by her owner. Reason... she had diarrhea and they didn't want to spend the money on a vet visit (our guess is she did a number on their carpet and decided she wasn't worth it). Sasha had been adopted only 3 months before from the shelter. We rescued her as a result of her shelter stay she had very bad kennel cough and was sick for 6 weeks. After some TLC and lots of antibotics Sasha is healthy, happy and ready to go home. Very sweet little girl that loves other dogs. Sasha is approximately 10 pounds.

Ralphie - male mixed-breed pup. Approximate DOB mid March 2009. Ralphie found on the streets of Long Beach without collar or tags. His most striking physical characteristic is his color – white except for two big black spots and hundreds of small black freckles, most of them on his ears! That color pattern would fit a Dalmatian or American Bulldog or English Setter or … your guess is as good as ours. Like all pups his age, Ralphie is still developing – his body is a work in progress, and more importantly, so is his personality. He quickly made up for a lack of socialization with other dogs and plays enthusiastically with bigger and older dogs. He’s been crate-trained and house-broken, and rides well in the car. A commitment to obedience classes is a must for his adopter, and large puppy experience will be a plus; it looks like Ralph will weigh around 45 pounds when full-grown.
Note: Ralphie is available through Forever Homes Pet Rescue and in addition to being shown at the Redondo Beach Petco on Saturdays, Ralphie can also be seen at the Signal Hills Petsmart on Sundays. If interested in his schedule, email emread@verizon.net for further details.

Cailey - female terrier/dachshund pup. Approximate DOB 3/12/09. She was found hiding under a car with her friend Cassie who has been adopted. Cailey was the brave one and came out to see the volunteer who found them. Once Cailey showed Cassie everything was okay she came to the volunteer too. Cailey is very loving towards humans and dogs – don’t know about cats. She really holds her own and keeps the rest of the pack in line. She is very playful and very much a puppy – curious about everything in site! She has been spayed so is ready to go home. Cailey is just a baby now so we can't be certain but we are estimating she'll be around 25-30 pounds when full grown.
Cailey is BocMeow's Foster Dog for November!!!

Dolly
- female Beagle mix pup. Approximate DOB 2/1/09. Dolly was rescued from an irresponsible owner. She is a happy-go-lucky girl, well-socialized and friendly with people and dogs. Dollypup is crate-trained, virtually house-broken, and well-started on leash-training, but she will definitely need obedience classes. Beagle mixes like Puggles (Pug/Beagle) became very popular a few years ago. Well, we think that Dollypup is a mix of Beagle and American Staffordshire Terrier (“pitbull”) so her adopter may get in early on the next big thing – a Piggle! This sweet Piggle has the personality of a lapdog … but a Staffie mix will grow a lot bigger than a Pug, so we’re guessing she’ll end up weighing over 40 pounds. Large puppy experience will be a help in raising and training Dolly, and her adopter has to commit to formal obedience training. Many people, including some landlords, neighbors and even family members, are prejudiced against “pitbulls.” Dolly doesn’t look very “pitty” now, but this may change as she matures, so her adopter must be prepared to stick up for her every day, and stick by her for life.
Note: Dolly is available through Forever Homes Pet Rescue and in addition to being shown at the Redondo Beach Petco on Saturdays, Dolly can also be seen at the Signal Hills Petsmart on Sundays. If interested in her schedule, email emread@verizon.net for further details.

Emma
- 1 year old female AmStaff (“pitbull”). Rescued from the shelter, is a perfect example of why so many people love these dogs. The Animal Control Officer who picked her up as a stray noted on her intake report that she was “sweet and friendly,” and today she’s sweet, friendly, and obedience-trained. Emma is house-broken, crate-trained, and calm and quiet in the car. Her temperament is submissive and affectionate with people; she is so eager to please that training her is a pleasure. As is typical of the breed, she loves kids. While she’s shown no signs of aggression, based on her reaction to squirrels and turtles we believe that Emma has a strong prey drive and should not live with cats or other small animals (including smaller dogs who are either timid or excitable). She gets along great with playful dogs and submits willingly to dominant ones. This good-looking girl will be an obedient, loyal and loving family member. Her adopters don’t need special skills or experience … but they do need the ability to commit to and stand up for a happy, friendly dog who will be the victim of prejudice simply because of her race. Emma is virtually full-grown at about 55 pounds.
Note: Emma is available through Forever Homes Pet Rescue and in addition to being shown at the Redondo Beach Petco on Saturdays, Emma can also be seen at the Signal Hills Petsmart on Sundays. If interested in her schedule, email emread@verizon.net for further details.

Rose - female Pit/Lab pup. Approximate DOB 11/11/08. Rose was rescued from the gutter of a busy South Central street on which an adult dog had recently been killed in traffic. Kind neighbors took her into their business and kept her safe until she could go to a foster home. This poor baby was hardly recognizable as a dog – her little face was practically bald and she was missing most of the fur on her head and legs. Happily she turned out to be suffering from nothing more serious than an acute flea allergy and was easily cured with a medicated bath followed by Advantage, and her shiny fur is now regrown. Baby Rose is well-socialized with people and dogs, and is friendly and eager to interact with both. Her confidence, intelligence, and curiosity (and stubbornness!), combined with her assertiveness with her bigger foster sisters, are typical of a generally dominant temperament. Rose is crate-trained, house-broken, leash-trained and progressing well on basic obedience. Because of her dominant tendencies, she will need continued formal obedience training and practice. We’re guessing an adult weight for Rose of around 40-45 pounds, but this is a guess, not a guarantee. In any case, Baby Rose won’t be a “baby” for much longer; her adopter must have the ability to make a life-long commitment to a dog of her breed mix and personality.
Note: Rose is available through Forever Homes Pet Rescue and in addition to being shown at the Redondo Beach Petco on Saturdays, Rose can also be seen at the Signal Hills Petsmart on Sundays. If interested in her schedule, email emread@verizon.net for further details.

Ginger - 3 year old Corgi/Spaniel mix. She was found on the street and scared to death. She wouldn't let anyone close to her except a little boy. It is obvious she has been abused as she is afraid of all new adults but once she knows you won't hurt her she warms up. She likes to be petted but not held although she will sit beside you. Ginger would do best in a quiet home without a lot of visitors. Ginger is approximately 19 pounds.
