14.25" f/4.5 Dobsonian (actually, Alt-Az mounted) : (Last updated : 08/24/01)
I finally broke down and purchased a "light bucket" (okay, actually more of a "light pot") and it even came with a Telrad <shudder>. but does have a "real" finder (80mm Lumicon) so I won't be completely lost.
The telescope originally came from a company called "Z-optics" that was in business in the early to mid 1990's and came equipped with mirrors from Parks Optical. When I did a quick optical test on it, it appeared to have fine optical surfaces so I'm pretty confident that when the seeing conditions permit it will perform well on those faint fuzzies.
This one also came with the Celestron Astro-Master digital setting circles to make finding those fuzzies easier.
For the time being, I'll have to rely on the "customized" transporter that the previous owner constructed which consists of a heavy duty hand truck with a form fitting cradle. In theory, it can be wheeled to the observing position and the dolly removed leaving the scope just about ready for use. You can see part of the cradle along the left side of the tube with the restraining bracket in front.
Future plans will be to modify it into a truss type of system to make it lighter and easier to haul around to star parties.
