Eleanor Sullivan, RN, PhD is the author of the Monika Everhardt mystery series, set in St. Teresa’s Hospital in South St. Louis. Her first novel, Twice Dead, was released by Hilliard & Harris in 2002. Her newly-released Deadly Diversion takes us once again to the Intensive Care Unit of St. Teresa’s (or St. T’s to its dedicated staff), where head nurse Monika Everhardt investigates the death of cancer patient Huey Castle, a small-time crook who died of a respiratory arrest just before he was to talk to police about a long-ago crime.

Edgar Award winner Aaron Elkins has this to say about Deadly Diversion: "Eleanor Sullivan has constructed a medical mystery that rings with authenticity, and a spunky, likable, interesting nurse-protagonist to do her crime-solving for her. May we see much more of Monika Everhardt!"

Eleanor’s nursing career spanned 20 years, including serving as dean of the University of Kansas School of Nursing, president of an international nursing organization, editor of a professional nursing journal, and author of award-winning books on nursing. She has testified before U.S. Senate committees and served on a National Institute of Health council, and has presented papers in the U. S., Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, and Australia. She has been quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Kansas City Star, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Rolling Stone, and was named "Who’s Who in Health Care" by the Kansas City Business Journal.

As active in mystery writing organizations as she was in nursing associations, Eleanor currently serves as secretary on the national board of Sisters in Crime. In gratitude for the opportunities she has had in nursing, Eleanor contributes a portion of her book sales for nursing scholarships.

Her five children grown, Eleanor lives in St. Louis with her cat, Theodore Baer (a.k.a. Teddy Bear), and is writing the next mystery in the Monika Everhardt series, Assumed Dead.

Assumed Dead

"From the shadow of the St. Louis Arch to the ashes of the World Trade Center, Assumed Dead pulses with the authentic excitement of a busy ICU as head nurse Monika Everhardt uncovers the mysterious connection between a battered wife, an unidentified car crash victim and a long-missing man while laying to rest some ghosts of her own." -- Marcia Talley, Agatha and Anthony award-winning author of This Enemy Town

"Turn off the phone and get ready to stay up all night. Eleanor Sullivan's ASSUMED DEAD is a medical thriller that pulls you in from the first page and doesn't let go. Monika Everhardt is a sensible, intelligent sleuth, a woman to admire and emulate. I loved this book." -- Kate Grilley, Anthony award winning author of Death Dances to a Reggae Beat

"This skillful interweaving of sleuth Monika Everhardt's personal concerns with realistic suspense in the ICU drives Eleanor Sullivan's plot to a conclusion that leaves the reader asking, ‘Why did I never suspect?' ASSUMED DEAD is a satisfying blend of medical expertise and amateur sleuthing." -- Patricia Sprinkle, Author of Did You Declare the Corpse? and Death on the Family Tree

"An intricate plot and authentic atmosphere pull the reader into the inner workings of a big city hospital in this top notch mystery. Great atmosphere! A sympathetic heroine and her quirky co-workers round out a fascinating book. Worth waiting for!" -- Joanna Carl, author of "The Chocoholic Mysteries"

"ASSUMED DEAD crackles with the life-and-death intensity of a real hospital ICU. Only someone as well-versed as Eleanor Sullivan could write this serpentine story of greed and murder." -- Letha Albright, author of Bad Luck Woman

Deadly Diversion

"The telling and characters are expertly handled, and the specialized background is rendered in warts- and-all detail." Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, July 2005

Eleanor Sullivan has constructed a medical mystery that rings with authenticity, and a spunky, likable, interesting nurse-protagonist to do her crime-solving for her. May we see much more of Monika Everhardt! However, this is NOT a book you want to read before going in for a hospital stay. . . . but if you must go to a hospital, my advice is to stay the heck away from St. Teresa's!” --Aaron Elkins, Edgar Award winner

"Eleanor Sullivan is one author who writes what she knows, using her career in nusing as a backdrop for her mysteries. So it's no wonder that DEADLY DIVERSION crackles with authenticity. Death in the ICU may be part of the job for her protagonist, Monika Everhardt, but it's a difference case entirely when the diagnosis is murder." --Susan McBride, author of BLUE BLOOD

Twice Dead

"St. Louisans are in for a treat as Sullivan's book careens through the neighborhoods and eccentricities of the city." --Shirley Kennett, Author of Act of Betrayal(as Morgan Avery) and Burning Rose

"I prescribe Twice Dead for any reader who wants a wonderful new heroine and a suspenseful medical mystery."--Nancy Pickard, Award winning author of The Whole Truth
