December 2006: A Mysterious Holiday MEMBER AUTHOR SHOWCASE A
Yuletide Horror The night sky shone with diamonds of splendor, but all I saw were ruby drops in the snow and the battered wings of the murdered angel. The pristine frost of white had been trampled, scattered. Violated. The struggle had been a desperate one. A trail, punctuated with occasional spots of scarlet, marked the path along which the body had been dragged. I stole through the crisp air, each step drawing me closer to where the tracks ended. I stared at the small wooden shed, knowing a wiser being than I would turn back, stifling the urge to run so the crunch of snow underfoot would not give them away. Bracing myself against the horror I knew waited within, I creaked open the door. His shadowy figure crouched over the crumpled angel, muttering curses as he wrapped a cloth around his injured hand. A tangle of Christmas lights hung about his neck. It was the same scene every year. "Having trouble with the Christmas display again, dear?"
