Bio

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Trauma Specialist. I have counseled people in spiritual crisis for since1987 and was a member of the Spiritual Emergence Network, now known as The Center for Psychological and Spiritual Health. I taught Metaphysics at Mt. San Antonio College and currently teach Meditation in weekly and monthly groups. As a hospice volunteer I worked with the dying and taught the Psycho-Spiritual Aspects of Hospice work to incoming volunteers at Hospice of the East San Gabriel Valley. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, I studied two years with a professional clairvoyant and studied Natural Theology for one year. I am a member of the San Gabriel Valley Paranormal Researchers.  My Master’s Degree in Marriage, Family & Child Counseling is from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. While in graduate school I completed a one year internship working with cancer patients and their families at the Wellness Community.

My Philosophy

Often psychotherapy is thought of as admitting failure - that you are unable to work out your own problems or just for crazy people. We are never taught the skills we need in relationships, how to process feelings about past events or make changes in our lives that will get us beyond a frustrating situation. Life and psychotherapy are processes. I feel that therapy is a process through which healing occurs and we discover meaning and purpose through which we become who we potentially are. There is no one right answer, there is only your answer that therapy can help you to discover.

As a therapist I believe that deep inside every being is an innate wise core Self that can help one reach our potential. But often we are too distracted by our external environment to hear the voice of the Self or the Soul. In therapy it is important to address the whole person. I look for the potential in each person and help him or her to see it in as a beacon toward which to grow.  Changing behavior is important, but I believe that change comes from the inside out. We need to believe in ourselves, our potential and find meaning and purpose in life that motivates us toward greater awareness, greater participation in life and greater appreciation of the opportunity life offers us for growth and fulfillment. I feel it is important to integrate spiritual beliefs into everyday life so that we act in relationships in a way that is consistent with what we believe and that we live our lives by the philosophy of our souls. This is important to our happiness and health and when we nurture our souls we contribute to the well being of family, friends, the workplace, society and our planet.

Trauma, abuse and violence where trust and safety have been violated affect one’s ability to have and sustain relationships that are satisfying and nurturing. I work with victims of crime and abuse that is physical, sexual, verbal and emotional. This includes trauma recovery and healing. I also work with serious illness, death and dying and grief and bereavement.  I work with all ages and address relationship problems within families, couples and groups in therapy.

I have specialized experience, knowledge and training in “Spiritual Emergence / Emergency” in its many forms. I have a Transpersonal theoretical orientation, and work with creativity, intuition and spiritual experiences. I have training and knowledge in hypnosis, spirituality, parapsychology, consciousness, dreams, meditation, relaxation and visualization and Psychoneuroimmunology.

MONTHLY MEDITATION GROUP

Meditation is a spiritual practice used in many cultures for thousands of years.  The techniques may vary but the intention is the same, connection and communion with the Creator or the creative source of life referred to by many as God.   Meditation encourages development of higher consciousness, a part of which is greater awareness, intuition, compassion, empathy and acceptance. The practice of Meditation encourages the integration of spiritual beliefs into daily life. Meditation has also been found useful in reducing stress, strengthening the immune system and promoting good health.  Meditation can increase creativity and intuition and when used simultaneously with therapy or other methods of seeking growth, it encourages mental, emotional and behavioral growth and changes.  Meditation can be helpful in uncovering traumatic memories, controlling habitual thoughts, anger, depression, chemical dependency and chronic pain.

INSURANCE AND PAYMENT INFORMATION
(as of 6-17-08)

Currently I take all PPO insurances such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Victims of Crime Grants and am on the following HMO insurance panels: Blue Shield, PacifiCare, Magellan (Merit, Vista) Beech Street Corporation, Aetna, College Health IPA, Great-West, UnitedBehavioralHealth, Great-West, APS, Healthnet, Value Options and Cigna. Insurances are complicated and with "carveouts", etc. so it is hard to tell on what panel I may turn up. It is best if you call your insurance and ask if I am a provider, ask if you need an authorization prior to your first session, and what the copayment is. Often there are two or three levels of copayments, one for “parity” (or SMID OR SMI) diagnoses, another for non-parity, and one for substance abuse. If you are paying cash my fee is $90 per 50 minute session.
