NARFE CHAPTER 190 MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING FEBRUARY 2009 NARFE Ventura County Chapter 190 Board Meeting -February 5,2009 Meeting called to order at 10:40 a.m. by President Tony Pizza. Attendees: Tony, Carl & Dukie Bailey, Juanita Davis, Bob Willis, George Ramirez, Marilou Balangue, Vic Johnson. Treasurer Carl Bailey reported checkbook balance is $3899.52 + $25.00 petty cash. He will no longer arrange the Laughlin trips. 1st v.p. Juanita Davis reported membership stands at 854. She also said that the attendees at the luncheons have been very attentive to the speakers. Service Officer Bob Willis has been passing out F-100s, and the OPM telephone numbers. 2nd v.p. George Ramirez will contact our Congressional reps about the premium offset. He suggested that it be part of the stimulus package. He said that our speaker for February's meeting would be Dr. Jim Vernon, PHD. He will talk about his experiences as a pilot in WWII. Ways & Means Chair Marilou Balangue said that the cost of See's candy certificates has gone up to $13.00 per pound. She said that she also has talked to Jesse about the very tough pork chops that were served at last month's meeting. Newsletter editor Vic Johnson reminded us of the free income tax assistance, which is available in several places. Please get your info to him by Monday. It was voted to continue collecting for Food Share at every meeting. He will put this notice in the Newsletter. Tony said that we would include articles on tax help and the fact that no withdrawals from IRAs and 401Ks are necessary in 2009. The State Convention will be May 1 - 3 in Concord. Carl & Dukie will attend and possibly Tony and Rena. We have 24 names on our booster list. We voted to spend $50.00 on a program ad. Tony said that we have received thank you notes for the Christmas donations from Food Share, Rescue Mission, Alzheimer's Assoc., FEEA, Project Understanding and the Salvation Army.
