NARFE CHAPTER 190 MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING MARCH 5, 2009 President Tony Pizza cal led the meeting to order at 10:45 a.m. Attendees: Tony, Carl & Dukie Bailey, Marilou Balangue, George Ramirez, Bob Willis, Vic Johnson, Mary Ellen De Luca.Secretary's minutes read and corrected. Treasurer Carl Bailey reported checkbook balance is $3642.21 + $25.00 petty cash. He reminded us that March is NARFE PAC month. 1st v.p. Juanita Davis was absent due to a death in the family. Tony said that we have 859 members. New - 2 are from the newsletter mailing and 1 transferred from Long Beach. 2nd v.p. George Ramirez said that a prospective speaker is George Cogswell, V.C. Star President and Publisher. He is always looking for good speakers. He and Tony will contact current employees about to be retired about joining NARFE. Posters are available about NARFE. Vic Johnson reminded us that NARFE watched that we did not get left out of Premium Conversion legislation. He will put the article about advances in Alzheimer's treatment in the Newsletter and print extra for distribution. Tony and several other members attended the funeral for Chris Vasquez. Marilou Balangue said that 16# of food items were donated to Food Share this past meeting. She asked that we try to get the newspaper to put the meeting notice in a week early. Tony said that the base has new access rules. No more one- year passes. He also showed a letter from member John R. Jay promoting locality pay for retired federal employees. We do not support the contents. The mission of NARFE is to maintain and preserve not increase benefits. General meeting - March 26, Board meeting - April 2.
