MY STORY
I have been making prints from plants for over
25 years. My first prints were made in the field on folded pieces of card stock using stamp pads to ink the leaves.
My goal was to make images showing the shape and detail of the plant leaves for later identification with field guides.
I liked the process and eventually started collecting leaves and doing prints at home under more controlled conditions. These
original "home made" prints were made with mimeograph inks applied with pieces of foam rubber mounted on wooden dowels to
make foam dabbers.
Since I had no previous experience or knowledge
of plant printing, I was able to experiment freely and eventually developed my own techniques that were different than
used by other plant printers. My technique gives prints that are very realistic and viewers often believe the real plant
has been mounted in the picture. Through my involvement with the Nature Printing Society, I have shared my techniques
and many others have incorporated them into their work. Later I learned that others had been doing prints for hundreds
of years.
