The example shown is a Columbus Depot Jacket Type 1 made from County Cloth #9B jeans cloth. Indigo dyed collar
and cuffs are from Family Heirloom Weavers as is the nankeen cotton used for lining of body and sleeves. Jacket is cut from
a size 46 County Cloth pattern. One interior pocket. Six button front using repro 1851 Goodyear hard
rubber buttons. We make these jackets in a variety of jeans cloth materials and using various patterns. All are
accurate, quality representative pieces that will provide years of wear.
The Columbus Depot was one of the largest producers of uniforms of the Confederacy and was in operation from the onset
of hostilities right up until the capture of Columbus by Union forces in April, 1865. Jackets from this depot were issued
in all theaters of the war. Distinctive to these type jackets was the indigo blue collar and cuffs, although jackets
were issued without the 'trim' colors as well. Two basic types of Columbus jackets have been identified:
Type 1 which has a pocket on the inside (none outside) and somewhat rounded lower front panels, and Type II, which has one
exterior pocket (normally on the left side) and has more squared front lower panels (as opposed to rounded). Jackets
came in six or seven button front configurations.
We offer a typical Columbus Depot Type I or II Jacket at a starting price of $160.00 plus $6.50 shipping.
Machine sewn hidden seams with all visible stitching done by hand using the appropriate cotton or silk thread, depending upon
application.
