The image below was taken on my first night out with my new Canon Digital Rebel XT. I am still learning how to use this camera to its full potential, and I know I made a number of mistakes this evening (like not turning on the long-exposure noise reduction). Even so, I am very pleased with my initial results. The shot below is a 1/4 scale reduction of a single 25-second exposure at f/3.5, ISO 800, taken 9/2/05 from Sunset Field on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
You can also view the full-scale image , or a cropped version with labels showing many of the Messier objects in the region around the Sagittarius "teapot." (After I labeled mine, I found one published by NASA here .) Note that when loading either of these images, you should make sure your browser is not automatically scaling the images down to your screen size--you'll want to pan around the full-resolution photos.
