Credit card about July 1st info 1-800# wasn't a scam, but it didn't help

The emial on personal credit is an incorrect rumor. Experian | Consumer Alert regarding the July 1st Credit hoax.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, (see their home page), this false, incorrect information has been circlating since December 2001. It picks up steam every year around the end of June/beginning of July, cause of the July date.

The only correct part of the emial is the phone number of the Federal Trade Commission.

The above is from our local newspaper, written by Jeff Gelles of Knight Ridder newspapers. I did go to the FTC site and this email is listed as one of the fake ones circulating.
