This page is designed to help residents know how the ACO can work for them
Before we begin: Please note that wildlife calls other than rescues, attacks against humans or pets, potentially rabid, diseased, injured, or wildlife stuck inside of dwellings are NOT covered by your local ACO. Please see the Wildlife page for more information.
If you have a specific issue that is not addressed here please email or call the Animal Control Officer

When to call 911
  • You, another person, or your pet is being attacked by another animal.
  • You have struck an animal with your automobile.
  • An animal is in a life threatening situation that needs immediate assistance.

All Other calls should be directed to the Dispatch Center of the Norfolk Police by calling 508-528-3232. The dispatcher will prioritise your call and you will receive a response accordingly if the ACO is not available or direct you to voicemail.
The animal control department does not dispose of residents  pets when they pass away. We do understand the grief pet owners have when their animal dies and will assist when we can. If you need help transporting your pet (locally) to your vet or a pet cemetary we can help as long as you have set up a payment situation with those businesses prior to our arrival.
Yes we can remove an alligator from your home. This in fact was in a home in Norfolk in 2006.
Specialty Services: In the town of Norfolk if a cat is "treed" your ACO may be able to climb up and bring him/her down.  For all cats treed in Norfolk(that have owners), we ask that a donation for  services be put into the Animal Control Gift Account. We will not climb trees that have power lines running through them or those trees that are so unhealthy/dead that it poses a risk to the ACO.
