One Laptop Per Child (OLPC)
Founder: Nicholas Negroponte
Established: 2005
Goal: Provide affordable laptop computers to millions of
school children in the developing world.
Negroponte's ambitious project has struggled to achieve its objectives, particularly in the face of adversarial challenges from corporate competitors. Nevertheless, OLPC has sold hundreds of thousands of XO laptops and is well equipped to continue its work in the coming years.
