1997 Summary: In the forth year of the W-league (formerly the USWISL) a division of the USISL , the Sacramento Storm played in the Western Division. The Storm finished the 1996 Season with a 6-4 record to finish 4th in the tough Western Conference. The Storm just missed a slot in the 1996 W League "Swizzling Six" Championship Playoffs. The 1997 California Storm had a very successful regular season, finishing first in the Western Conference with a 9-1 record.
They started the playoffs against the NorCal Shockwaves in the Western Conference Playoffs. The Storm came out with a 5-1 victory to take the Western Conference Championship. The Storm headed to the 1997 W-League National Championship in Rochester, NY. The Storm recieved the Top Seed in the W-League National Championship Tournament. The Storm came out of the playoffs 1-1 winning against the Atlanta Classics and suffering a defeat in a shootout to eventual champions Long Island Lady Riders.  With a 1-1 record the Storm missed the Championship game due to goal differential.  Congratulations on a wonderful year!  Way to go Storm!!.
