"A Friend"

What is a friend?
An extension of yourself;
It's what you give to the world
Reflected in someone else.

A friend can bring a smile
With a gesture or kind word,
A voice on the other line
Is the best sound you've heard.

When love is broken
Or family brings you down,
A friend is always present
To stand you on shaky ground.

A friend never says
"Go away I haven't the time";
With a hug you are special
Like a melody inside a rhyme.

A friend cries for you
When you have no tears to shed,
And when you feel bitter
They bring compassion instead.

A friend is thoughtful
And calls you up just to say hi,
Or knocks at your door
Without needing a reason why.

The shoulder you cry on,
The hand we need to grasp on to,
A friend lends us their own
Whenever we feel down and blue.

Laughter is good medicine
When a friend brings us cheer,
Sometimes friends are far away
Yet always seem to be near.

A friend is a good listener
When no one else seems to be,
And he gives good advice
When it's not there for you to see.

A friend loves sweetly
Though tenderness may not show,
But with a smile or a touch
Their feelings you'll always know.

What is a friend?
An extension of yourself;
It's what you give to the world
Reflected in someone else.
