"An Author In Search Of A Name"

An author in search of a name
Sits at his desk in the afternoon
His fingers resting on the typewriter
As the sun filters in the room;
"Tik-tok" sound out the keys
Like a beloved character he's made
Telling stories to his children
Now trying to put it to the page.

Will the world love it just as much
As his boys and their friends
This tale of a girl and her dog
Carried away on the wind;
Whatever should he call this world
He has transported them to
A name so persistently eludes him
And he knows not what to do.

Then glancing across the quiet room
At a file cabinet against the wall
"A-N" reads the top drawer
But to the bottom one his eyes draw;
There it is, the revelation
The name he's frantically looked for
Leaping out into the world
From a label on a file drawer.

Oh so quickly he types it out
And then he sits back and smiles
Looking at the "O-Z" on the bottom drawer
Where he'd kept a few of his files;
And thus legends can be born
Sometimes in the most simplest of ways
Just as "The Wizard Of OZ" by L. Frank Baum
Sprung to life one day...
