"Don Juan Triumphant!"
I have watched from shadowed staircase
The chandelier light reflected in her eyes
Her soul laid bare in her sweet voice
While I must hide mine beneath this disguise
Long hair resting on bare shoulders
Her innocence a prize I've longed to possess
I've admired the way she glides and smiles
Across the stage in her costumed dress.
Ah, if I could but be her angel of music
That makes her heart beat in passionate grace
To hold her in candelabra lit darkness
And see the glow of desire paint her face
The letters I've written like rivers
The words flow forth in deep dark streams
Where I hide my face from her beauty
But can be with her in catacomb dreams
Finally she knows how much I love her
Don Juan Triumphant! I cry
But wait! It is not myself but another
Who brings that dazzling gleam to her eye
Raoul, you foolish fated suitor
She is mine, she is mine, all mine
I am her angel, not you
Who has given her songs of the heart divine
Christine, I couldn't bear for you to see me
My countenance of foul repute
But come now look behind the mask
To see the horror and tragedy of my youth
No, do not turn away, come back!
It's I, Erik, whose shown you music of the night
But I can see on your face all the fear
I've tried to hide from the old opera lights
Swords clash, this is the duel now
Between men locked in battle over you
And only Don Juan will be triumphant
The one who loves you so thusly true
Am I not the better man?
What is this, he cannot have bested me!
Christine, no don't say you love Raoul
Did not you alone my true face to see?
Oh this is my fate, this tragic old fate
That twisted my soul in its dark
Until my only obsession led me to murder
To win the love of the young diva's heart
Slowly I die, I go slipping away now
The phantom returns from whence he came
You will always be glorious lovers
But for me I'll just be legend and name
...Phantom of the opera
