"In Memory Of My Uncle, Frank B. Phlegar"
A piece of laughter is missing today,
I keep waiting for your punch line,
I'm half expecting you to say
You'll be on the green in time;
You always had a joke for me,
And everyone else around,
I will miss your smile especially,
For it showed the joy you'd found.
From the days of Merchant Marines,
To the nights in Korean fields,
From a thousand or more everyday scenes,
Remember you we always will;
From the time on the railway,
To long days spent on the tee,
The Post Office years slipped away,
My how the time does flee.
From your old friend Jack and "The Kid",
To your grandchildren at Randolph-Macon,
We will rejoice the life you lived,
And the beautiful road now taken.
We close our eyes and we can see,
Somewhere in our mind,
How at peace you now must be,
By the grace of God divine.
And somehow I just know this,
As surely as the sky knows the wind,
You now walk the golden pastures,
With your Mother once again.
So for your wife and children today,
And for all of your family,
I quietly bow my head and pray,
Let God watch over thee.
And someday I know, this I ponder,
We will meet again,
When the roll is called up yonder,
And we gather like old friends.
A piece of laughter is missing today,
But I really have to smile,
For you lit up our lives in your special way,
And we'll remember you all the while.
