"Lakeside Amusement Park"

Today I went out walking to a place we used to go,
when we were kids and teenagers and time went by so slow,
the old amusement park was the place to be
on those summer days that went by endlessly.
Remember the roller coaster, it sure went pretty fast
called "The Shooting Star", we wanted every ride to last,
sometimes the attendant would let us ride twice
on the same ticket, man those days were nice.

I recall the Tilt-A-Whirl and the Cloud Nine,
they'd both make you sick, but we still liked them fine,
you liked the Scrambler, I liked the Butterfly,
because it made me feel like I could touch the sky.
"I'll meet you by the Spider", you would often say,
and then we'd relax riding the big train all day;
there would be some country shows for the older crowd,
though we'd play on the slide and drown them out loud.

But it was the lost space ride, a sort of fun house
that I looked forward to and couldn't live without,
we would ride and ride, in and out of the dark,
where we would kiss and feel the beating of our hearts.
and there was the pavilion full of fun and games
a guy would guess your weight and maybe even the girls' names,
what about the sky tram that went over the parking lot?
funny how easy it is to forget the forgot...

Sadly nothing of these wondrous things have remained,
except the old broken trestles of the kiddie train,
It's just littered woods now and a strip shopping mall,
where there used to be bingo games and ten cent skee-ball.
It's strange how things can change oh so very much,
all the things that made us laugh and always keep in touch,
but I can still remember fondly staying out after dark
you and I having the times of our life at Lakeside Amusement Park.
