John changes the
focus a bit. John has been showing that even though evil appears strong and victorious,
it can only do what God allows it to do. Believers may suffer in the process
of the here and now, but they will be victorious in the end. Evil can only exercise
the power that God allows – God is almighty yet the people of God are oppressed.
John changes gears
somewhat here. Rather than focus on the seeming victory of evil, he deals with
the final overthrow of evil (completely). God blasts through and comes against
evil with all judgment. Evil has no chance.
God is completely triumphant. This is the end of the story.
