What is Acupuncture? A healing system that nourishes and promotes the life-giving energy of the body, Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into points (places along energy pathways (meridians)) where energy is easily accessed. Through thousands of years of observation, the Chinese mapped out these points on the body and their effects on individuals. Originating in China thousands of years ago, today acupuncture is the primary source of healthcare for approximately one third of the world's population.

What is Qi or Chi? Qi or Chi (pronounced chee) is the life-giving energy of the body. Qi flows through the body along pathways called meridians much the same way streams, rivers, and oceans flow on earth. When Qi is flowing smoothly there are wellness, balance, and harmony of body, mind and spirit. When Qi is not flowing smoothly there may be symptoms of pain, disease, extreme emotion or lack of emotion, to name a few. Acupuncture points and techniques are carefully chosen based on each patient. Everyone is different. Two patients come with back pain, two patients receive two different treatments.

Does Acupuncture Hurt? There is a slight prick as it enters the skin. Sometimes you will not even know the needles are in place. Other times there may be some tingling, warmth, heaviness, or a feeling of the Qi moving up and down the channels or meridians. Most report that Acupuncture is very relaxing. You may even fall asleep during treatment.

How Big Are The Needles? The needles used are extremely small, sterile, disposable needles that are about the width of two human hairs. It is completely unlike receiving an ordinary injection from a hypodermic needle.

How Soon Would I See Results? Acupuncture is therapy not instant fix. Everyone responds differently to treatment depending on length of illness, severity, genetics, habits and lifestyle. Some people see changes immediately others take longer. Either way treatment needs to continue until the change holds over time.
