Cheswolde does not have Covenants or Architectural Committees to restrict what we can do with our properties.  However, Baltimore City has zoning codes, as well as property maintenance, sanitation, health, safety, and building codes that apply to us all; and it’s important to know that violation of City Codes can result in citations and fines.  Of course, the State of Maryland has driving and parking laws that apply everywhere.

We all have an interest in maintaining and improving our community.  Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Gutters and Storm Drains

Everything that goes into a storm drain ends up in the Chesapeake Bay and, eventually, the Atlantic Ocean; human debris spoils these bodies of water and can kill animals and birds.  Moreover, clogged storm drains can quickly result in local flooding.

· Keep the gutters in front of your own home and storm drains on your block free of trash, leaves, and debris.

· The Department of Public Works generally sweeps streets and gutters downtown and only in “challenged areas and neighborhoods,” although exceptions have been made to this general policy.

· In areas where the City does street-sweeping, a certain percentage of the residents must agree to a sweeping schedule, and to remove their parked cars from the street on the designated sweeping days.
