Software used to make this web site:
I wrote this web site in HTML code alone in 1998. It have been update many times and now I
use some Windows software for generating html pages for some pages (Especially Poems and pages using mostly text)
For 95% of this website I did not use
web site development software. I
want my site to be personal, inviting and have a homemade
look. My daughter Allison (11yrs in 1998) did most of the hot link icons
and other drawings.
Photographs:
You may have noticed that this site is mainly a photographic
summary of the life and times of Paul Ruby. Most of the
photos are presented in thumbnail (small photos of 2K)
and full size renditions. Luckily I have shot and collected
thousands of photographs over the past 25 years. I have
read that site visitors do not want to read, that they want
to look at photos. Since photographs typically are 20-50K
the loading time is sometimes slow. I have broken large
photo laden pages into multiple pages to help reduce the
loading time. Thumbnail photographs also help reduce
loading time.
Cameras used in this web site:
In 2006 I use a digital Canon SLR for quick pictures but my art photos are from film cameras. Sinar 8x10 and Mamiya 7, Diana 6x6 mostly.
In 1998 I used two 35mm cameras and one 1/4" camera were used for
the majority of the photos in this site (with the exception
of photography
section, see below)
1. Canon Sure Shot 35mm
1992 vintage
2. Nikon FE w/55 or 35mm lens
3. Rollieflex SLX SLR.
4. 8 x 10 " Deardorff
view camera. Most of the photos in the photography section of this site were
shot with an 8x10" Deardorff view camera.
Manufactured in 1964 this large wooden camera produces original photographic
prints unsurpassed in value, detail, resolution, clarity and richness. This
print quality is not apparent on computer screens.
Many of the earlier images were scanned directly from the 35mm
proof sheet and not from enlargements. You can tell by the poor quality when I’ve done that.
All of the black and white photos have been developed and
printed my self.
Image quality:
For a reason that I cannot explain the black and white
photographs from 1998 to 2000 in this site have less resolution and clarity
than the color photos. This is not the case in the original
photos. I am still working on this. Will experiment and
get back to you!
