Dance Musician & Music Publisher

WELCOME

to the home of Peter Barnes, professional folk musician (kind of an oxymoron, isn't it?) for over 25 years and publisher of music tune and instruction books.  Here you can find information about Canis Publishing's products and recordings made by the bands The Latter-Day Lizards, Bare Necessities, Dark Carnival, Yankee Ingenuity, Big Bandemonium, Childsplay and others, MIDI files of tunes and examples from my books and other sources, a selection of music,  shareware and computing links, promotional info in case you want to know a little more about my professional life, biographical stuff if, for some inexplicable reason, you're curious about my personal life, and even more.

I looked into the idea of getting "Peterbarnes.com", but of course it was already taken. It seems there are quite a many Peter Barnes's in this world - some quite illustrious (Peter Barnes the former West Coast editor of the New Republic, Peter Barnes the president of 'Working Assets' - he sends me junk mail once in a while, Peter Barnes the controversial English playwright (he's the guy who took my web site). A few years ago at a dance someone came up to me at a gig and said "I just saw your play at the Shubert Theatre in Boston! I had no idea you were so talented!" I tell you, brothers and sisters, I've faced easier moral decisions in life than this one, but after a minute I just had to disabuse her of the notion that when I was not on stage working through the chord changes I was slaving away in a garret on convoluted modernistic dramas.). Even in school there was another Peter Barnes in the class ahead of me - he once got called in to the Dean's office because I was skipping classes. Sorry, guy!

Luckily, my middle name, Fiduciarytarpaper, is quite unique.
