Road Rules

ARTICLE I


SECTION I. GENERAL - ALL OFFICIAL RIDERS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS, PENNSYLVANIA POST 473 FREELAND, WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ROAD CAPTAIN. HE WILL DESIGNATE THE ROUTE, THE STOPS, AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL PARTICIPATING RIDERS HAVE BEEN BRIEFED. THE ROAD CAPTAIN,(2) SERGEANT(S)AT-ARMS ARE IN CHARGE. DISCLAIMER STATEMENTS WILL BE EXPLAINED AND EACH RIDER (NOT COVERED BY A MEMBERSHIP DISCLAIMER) WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN ONE, BEFORE THEY WILL BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY SANCTIONED EVENT OR FUNCTION.


SECTION 2. ON THE ROAD - RIDERS MUST BE FAMILIAR WITH THE RULES OF THE ROAD AND ALL HAND AND ARM SIGNALS. ANY PARTICIPATING RIDERS MUST ARRIVE EARLY, WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND READY TO RIDE THE DAYS EVENT. THE ROAD CAPTAIN WILL LEAD THE GROUP WITH THE MEMBERS RIDING IN A STAGGERED FORMATION, CLOSING TO TWO ABREAST AT A STOP. AN INTERVAL OF 1-2 MOTORCYCLES SHOULD BE MAINTAINED BETWEEN YOU AND THE RIDER ON YOUR LEFT OR RIGHT.ON TWO-LANE ROADS, DO NOT LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR A VEHICLE TO SEPARATE THE GROUP. TAIL RIDERS MUST KEEP THE GROUP TIGHT.


SECTION 3 COMMUNICATION - ORAL COMMUNICATIONS WILL BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM. ARM AND HAND SIGNALS WILL BE USED. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ROAD CAPTAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL RIDERS KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE ARM AND HAND SIGNALS. THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS WILL START AS A GROUP AND RIDE AS A GROUP. THE ROAD CAPTAIN IS THE ONLY AUTHORIZED PERSON TO RELEASE A PARTICIPANT FROM THE RIDE. IF YOU HAVE TO BREAK FROM THE FORMATION DUE TO A MECHANICAL PROBLEMS, NOTIFY THE ROAD CAPTAIN OR THE SERGEANT AT ARMS.


SECTION 4 AT THE STOP - THIS IS WHERE WE SOCIALIZE, ANNOUNCE CHANGES, REFRESH OUR SELVES AND FILL OUR TANKS. THE(2) SERGEANTS AT ARMS WILL NOTIFY THE ROAD CAPTAIN OF ANY PROBLEMS, SAFETY VIOLATIONS OR MECHANICAL BREAKDOWNS. IF ASKED TO CHANGE YOUR POSITION IN THE GROUP, DO SO WITH OUT COMPLAINTS.


SECTION 5 SPEED - WE ARE NOT IN A HURRY. IN THE CITY LIMITS WE WILL RIDE AT OR BELOW THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT, ON THE HIGHWAY, WE WILL RIDE THE SPEED LIMIT. IF SPLINTER GROUPS OCCUR, A SGT AT ARMS WILL RIDE WITH THE SEPERATED GROUP. THE ROAD CAPTAIN WILL DECREASE SPEED, SLOW DOWN, OR PULL OVER AND WAIT, UNTIL THE SPLINTER GROUP(S) HAVE CAUGHT UP.


SECTION 6 SAFETY - OUR MAIN CONCERN WHILE PARTICIPATING IN ANY FUNCTION IS SAFETY. IF A SAFETY VIOLATION IS OBSERVED, DO NOT APPROACH THE INDIVIDUAL; ADVISE SOMEONE THAT IS IN CHARGE. SAFETY VIOLATIONS AND INFRACTIONS, OR CONDUCT UNBECOMING A MEMBER, ARE SUBJECT TO DISIPLINARY ACTION AS DECIDED BY THE ROAD CAPTAIN.


SECTION 7 RULES OF CONDUCT
1) MEMBERS WILL CONDUCT THEM SELVES IN A PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER AT ALL
TIMES.
2) NO MEMBER WILL FIGHT OR ARGUE IN PUBLIC WITH OTHER MEMBERS. THERE IS A PROPER WAY TO
HANDLE ALL SITUATIONS.
3) MEMBERS SHOULD NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES WHILE RIDING IN THE GROUP
AS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS.
4) MEMBERS WILL NOT DISCREDIT THE AMERICAN LEGION, AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY, SAL., OR THE
AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS IN ANY MANNER
5) THE CONSTITUTION AND BY LAWS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL, DEPARTMENT, DISTRICT,
AND POST SUPERSEDE AND ARE THE GOVERNING BY LAWS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS. THESE
BY LAWS ARE IN ADDITION TO THOSE. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET A COPY AND/OR FULLY UNDERSTAND THE BY LAWS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AND THE AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS.
