When I finish my oatmeal in the morning a little dragonfly looks back at me. They adorn my mug and plate too. Sometimes
I might see a butterfly, a starfish, or a fat kitten with a curly tail. They
always make me smile. It’s hard for me to make pottery with out some little
decoration or a beautiful intense glaze.

I like to use a glazing technique similar to English Majolica. I glaze
the inside with a light glaze color and the outside with an intense (usually dark) glaze.
I then use the reverse glaze to brush on the decoration. It requires contantly
dipping the brush into liquid glaze. My style is similar to cartoon line
drawings. All my designs are original and brushed on. This way no two are identical. I believe this fits the hand thrown pottery because no two hand-thrown items can really
be identical either.
I also throw and alter pots to make open mouth fish. I use the same clay & glazes on the fish as I use on my cups, bowls and plates. This makes the fish
food safe. Fill the open mouths with anything you can imagine. My customers have filled them with clam dip at a party, sponges at the kitchen sink, matches near the fireplace,
spare change in the bedroom, and paperclips or business cards in the office. Contact me, I love to hear the various ways they are used.
