54 Steps Makes The Finals For MAX FM Rock For Tots
"We don’t know if you’re aware of it, but 54 STEPS (Ocean View Pride article
in the May/June 2006 issue) has been staying pretty busy. Besides playing their regular show schedule, benefits for a variety
of causes (the latest of which was Thunder for the Park in support of rebuilding the skate ramp at Mount Trashmore) and preparing
their third album, Ocean View’s own 54 STEPS made the finals of the MAX FM (WXXM 100.5 FM) Rock for Tots band competition.
The boys submitted a copy of their song "James Brown Said That" which made it through the initial
cut of all entries submitted to the radio station (over 1,000 entries). Then they along with twenty three (23) other bands
had portions of their selected submissions put on the radio station’s web site (http://maxfm.fm/home.php) where they
were voted one of the six (6) semi-finalists. 54 STEPS performed opposite Jayden Sentence on November 30th and won the competition. MAX FMs Nathan
James had this to say.
"100.5 Max-FM hosted its first night of "Rock for Tots - Battle of the Bands" at Mary
Jayne’s Lazy Horse Bar and Grill on Cedar Road in Chesapeake to benefit the United States Marine Corps annual Toys For
Tots campaign. We hosted the first two bands that made it through the preliminary elimination rounds on our website. The first
band, Jayden Sentence, just formed about a year ago put on a LOUD yet entertaining performance. The second band, 54 Steps,
originated in Cindy Crawfordville (that’s Pittsburgh, PA) then moved to Norfolk in 2001. They cranked out some awesome
original tunes with a Southern rock flair." Since then there have two other semi-final rounds.
One on December 7th
featuring "Smoke N’ Mirrors" opposite "Alexander City": and the other on December 14th featuring "Chasing Corona" opposite "Conflict of Interest." The boys and
the other semi-finalists raised over $2,000.00 for the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. We at Ocean
View Scene salute the Marine Corps Reserve, MAX FM, each of the Semi-finalists for their contributions to an excellent cause.
54 STEPS will face both "Smoke N Mirrors" and "Chasing Corona" on the 21st of December at Mary Jayne’s
Lazy Horse Bar and Grill in Chesapeake. Be sure to listen to MAX FM at 100.5 FM to find out the results of the final competition.
To our local favorite, 54 STEPS, best of luck guys and keep on rockin’." |

"Andy, 54 Steps was AWESOME!!! That's the only word that really describes it. They fit perfectly
with the theme. The tenants loved them. The NASCAR Committee commented on how they enjoyed the music. They were a perfect
fit. The guys were so friendly and just great guys. They even sent a thank you note to me a few hours after they played. I
will be asking the property management if we can bring them back next summer for an event. I highly recommend them. Thanks
for all your help Andy. The event was a huge success." Stacie M. Executive Concierge of VA

54 Steps
"We at Splash Magazine caught up with 53 & 4/4 Steps at Poppa's Pub a few weeks ago. They went
into a tune all about being on the cover of the Rolling Stone which pretty quickly turned into being on the cover of The Splash
Magazine. The audience went wild and a good time was had by all. We at Splash Magazine think we should adopt this tune as
our own and thanks to 54 Steps for the idea.
They really sounded good and it was a butt load of fun. If you were not there you missed it so get
there.
Poppa's Pub is a great place to party and 54 Steps did a great job.
I think the 54 Steps name has to do with being stepped on, which we all know about.
The undiluted 54 steps will be playing around town and you need to check them out or your next copy
of Splash will have your photo, name and address in it and a want ad for free monkey sex.
54 Steps, well done. Keep on keeping on. "
