MARCH 6, 2005 - IT FITS???


HERE CHRIS IS INSTALLING THE STEERING COLUMN.  WE NEED TO DO THIS NOW SINCE A LARGE ENGINE WILL BE IN THE WAY LATER.


YOU CAN SEE WHY WE NEEDED A DIFFERENT COLUMN.  IT HAS A FLEXABLE SHAFT AND WILL BE OUT OF THE WAY OF THE EXHAUST. 


DOUG CAME OVER AND WAS HELPING ON WORKING ON SOME BODY WORK. 


WE INSTALLED THE MOTOR MOUNTS PRIOR TO INSTALLING THEM INTO THE CAR.  WE HAD TO REPLACE THE RUBBER INSERTS WITH AFTERMARKET PIECES. 


HERE IS THE COMPLETED OIL PAN GOING INTO THE CAR.



ON OUR FIRST ATTEMPT, THE ENGINE WENT INTO THE BAY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION HIT THE TUNNEL


TO GET THE ENGINE IN, WE ENDED UP ADJUSTING THE FIREWALL WITH  MINIMAL EFFORT.  THERE WILL NEED TO BE A FEW MINOR REPAIRS TO THE METAL, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, IT WAS A SUCCESS


NOW WE PLACE THE ENGINE INTO THE BAY FOR THE FINAL TEST FIT SO WE COULD TACK WELD THE MOTOR MOUNTS INTO PLACE.  FROM WHAT WE CAN SEE, THE ENGINE WILL OVER FLOW THE ENGINE BAY AND WE WILL NEED A HOOD SCOOP FOR CLEARANCE.  HOW BIG OF A SCOOP REMAINS TO BE SEEN. 






WE WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE FACTORY TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER AND ONLY HAD TO ENLARGE THE HOLES FOR THE MUSTANG TRANSMISSION MOUNT




WE USED THE DRIVESHAFT TO DETERMINE THE PLACEMENT OF THE MOTOR.  FORTUNATELY THE MUSTANG AND PINTO HAD THE SAME LENGTH DRIVESHAFT.  THE ENGINE WILL SIT FURTHER FORWARD, BUT THAT WILL BE AN ISSUE ANOTHER DAY.




NOT BAD, IT CLEARS THE STEERING RACK AND THE DRIVESHAFT EVEN LOOKS TO BE GOING STRAIGHT BACK . 


USING THE ANGLE GRINDER TO REMOVE THE PAINT WHERE THE MOTOR MOUNT WILL GO


ALL HOOKED UP AND READY TO TACK INTO PLACE.  THE MOUNTS GET THE ENGINE IN THE RIGHT PLACE SIDE TO SIDE AND THE DRIVESHAFT GETS IT IN PLACE FRONT TO BACK.  WE ARE NOT SURE HOW IT ALL WILL FIT, BUT WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT.

ONE MINOR PROBLEM WE HAD WAS WHEN THE HEADS WERE REDONE, ONE OF THE STUDS WERE STRIPED.  THIS CAUSED THE BOLT TO STRIP IT FURTHER AND WE WERE NOT ABLE TO TIGHTEN THE ROCKER.  WE ENDED UP USING A TAP AND TIE TO CLEAN UP THE THREADS HIGHER UP SO A BOLT COULD BE USED ON IT. 


I ALSO DRILLED OUT ONE OF THE OLD BOLTS FROM THE PREVIOUS HEAD TO USE AS A SPACER NEXT TO THE ROCKER AND WOULD USE A BOLT ABOVE IT TO HOLD IT INTO PLACE.  NOT QUITE NORMAL, BUT IT SHOULD WORK.










WOW, IT DOES FIT. 




WITH OUT THE FILTER, IT FITS UNDER THE HOOD. 




WE USED THE MUSTANG STEERING WHEEL.  WE WILL NEED TO FIGURE SOMTHING OUT FOR THE HORN. 



ON THE GROUND AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE FRONT END HAS LOWERED TO BE EVEN IF NOT A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE BACK WITH THE 2" LOWERING BLOCK.
