MARCH 13, 2004 - BRINGING IT HOME
Chris and I were watching the ads for
just the right car. I saw the ad for this car in the Recycler for $500
on Monday, but the car was located about 2 hours away in Lancaster and would
not have time to call until the end of the week. The next day, I found
another Pinto for $200, but I was never able to get a hold of the owner. On
Friday, I called the owner of the $500 Pinto and arranged to look at the
car at 10:30 Saturday morning.
When we got there, we found the right front tire completely removed from
the car. We spoke with the owner and found that the car was not running
since the Carb was not bolted in and there was no battery. No big deal,
Lets look at the car itself.
The body itself was in OK condition. There was minimal rust since
it was a desert car. There are some dents in the doors and front fenders,
but we will deal with that later with bondo and a hammer. We did notice
that the interior was already removed for us and 2 seats had been placed inside
the car. The biggest seller is that there was already a roll
bar installed inside the car. Chris and I looked it over and thought
about it for a few minutes and made our offer on the car. By the end
of the negotiations, we ended up buying a roll bar with a Ford Pinto attached.
We then had to go get a trailer and disconnect the drive shaft so we
could tow it home.
Below are pictures of the car at the Gypsy Pits
Chris and Brian are the proud new owners of a Ford Pinto? Proof we
need our heads examined.
From the inside, you can see the semi installed roll cage and a computer
monitor (these had computers back then???)
The car before we park it in the garage. Notice the new oil spot under
the car.
