April 17, 2005 - PROJECT UPDATE AND CAR SHOW

First, we did not make the contest we were building the car for.  We had intended to build this car for the Grassroots Motorsports $2005 challenge.  Since we did not make it next year, we will build the car for next years contest that is currently scheduled for October 2006.   One of the issues that caused us to not make it was the Oil pan had warped and would not seal against the engine on the transmission side.  Because of this, the oil leaked out as fast as the oil was put in.  To fix that, we started with an oil pan from a 351 and not try to combine the 2 together like I did on the last pan.  Another issue we had was the electrical with the distributer and coil.  The car will run with the starter engaged, but it will not stay running once the key is put back into the on position.

We started with an oil pan from a 77 Ford van with the correct engine.  We cut the pan to properly fit the design we were going to need to do using the sump from the 302 to properly place it on the car.

After we welded the pan, we applied jb weld to some of the joints to seal the oil in.  There were a few seams that we did not do and we will need to do those before we finish try to start the car again.
