We invited our friend Doug over to help on the car. Here both he and
Chris are finishing up the mounting of the roll bar. On the underside
of the car below the plate they are drilling through is a second plate
that will sandwich the body of the car. This will secure the cage to
the car incase of an acident and will also stiffen the body of the car.
Here I am welding metal straps to the bracket for the fuel cell that is required
to hold the fuel cell to the bracket. We will finish it in a few weeks
once it gets mounted to the car.
Here the car is ready for paint. We will do that after we get back
from the wrecking yard in the morning.
Doug and Chris used a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel on the right
from the steering column we will use on the cart. We still need to
remove the key and insert the key mechanism from the original cloumn
Sunday
We lucked out and found a remote filter from an older ford van. This
will allow us to remove the filter a lot easier and will also make it possible
to use the radiator as an oil cooler too.
At the end of the day, we were able to paint 90 percent of the car, but ran
out of time because the spray gun was getting clogged and we needed to run
back to the wrecking yard.
Last, Chris did paint the engine bay. We will need to touch it up in
a few places when we install some other parts, but is ready for the engine
if time permits next weekend. We do now have all of the major parts
to put it together. I still need to go to AutoZone / Pep Boys / Kragen
to get a few of the necessary items like a water pump, spark plugs, and so
on. I will still use E-bay when the price is right.
Time is running out and I hope we can get it running and test it out prior
to the event. I have also ordered the vanity plate that is for the
car. Hopefully it will be here before the event or at least the car
show at the end of April.
It reads Might Explode
