APRIL 9, 2006 - OMFG... IT DRIVES!

IN ORDER TO GET TO THE SHOW THIS WEEK, WE HAD TO DO THE FOLLOWING TO MAKE IT DRIVABLE TO THE SHOW...
  1. Bypass the heater core.  The one that came with the car is leaking and we live in southern california.  We do not need heat - DONE!
  2. Replace the valve covers with the ones that were given to me last year.  With the use of new gaskets, we should have no more leaks from here.   we just need to hope there are no other major leaks anywhere else. - DONE!
  3. Install the fans for the radiator.  I have the wires already done in a harness with relays.  I just need to install the switches at the dash. - INSTALLED 2 SWITCHES BUT STARTED WITH ONLY ONE FAN.  TESTED IT AND IT KEPT THE CAR AT 190 FOR AN HOUR.  THERE WAS ANOTHER ISSUE CAUSED THOUGH.  MORE ON THAT LATER.....
  4. Install Seat belts, front bumper, side marker lights, weld the alternator bracket for stability - WELL, THE SEAT BELTS, FRONT BUMPER AND ALTERNATOR BRACKET WERE DONE
  5. Cut the hood for the new scoop only if time permits.  Otherwise, just drive to the event with out a hood.  - IT'S ILLEGAL TO DRIVE WITHOUT A HOOD?  OOPS

Seat Belt installed (lap belt only for this event)

Doug Bleeding the brakes

Brian running wires for the fan  for the engine test

Completed fan Bracket for the Mercedes Fan.  It kept the car cool the whole time.

AT ABOUT 3PM, CHRIS AND I HAD FINALY COMPLETED THE CAR AND WE KNEW THAT IT WAS TIME FOR A TEST DRIVE.  THE CAR STILL HAD AN OIL LEAK AND HAD NOW STARTED TO LEAK WATER OUT OF A FREZE PLUG ON THE BLOCK.  OUR PRESSURE GAUGE FOR OUR OIL ALSO STARTED TO ACT STRANGE AS THE CAR HEATED UP.  WE NOTICED THAT THE CAR STILL  HAD OIL PRESSURE, SO WE MADE THE DECISION THAT WE DID NOT WAIT THIS LONG TO THEN NOT TAKE IT TO THE SHOW.  HE AND I GOT INTO THE CAR AND BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY.  AS WE LEFT THE DRIVEWAY, WE LEARNED WHAT TORQUE WAS.  ALL HE AND I COULD THINK OF FOR A DESCRIPTION WAS 200MPH FROM BILL COSBY.  IT FIT.  WHEN WE GOT BACK FROM GOING AROUND THE BLOCK, HE AND I WERE GRINNING FROM EAR TO EAR.  THIS WAS INCREDIBLE.  IT IS GOING TO DRIVE TO THE SHOW.

FABULOUS FORDS FOREVER CAR SHOW!!!
This year, there were too many pintos to fit in one frame so I just took a picture of each.  If I get a group photo, I will update this with that photo.  If you have info on any of the pintos, please email me so I can include a description of each next to the photo.

  1. DROVE FROM INDIANA FOR THE SHOW I BELIEVE.
  2. 72 PANGRA
  3. PANGRA WAGON
  4. 460 V8 WITH RELOCATED FIRE WALL
  5. NICE 289 CONVERSION.  WE WILL USE THIS HOOD FOR REFERENCE ON OUR CAR.
  6. 289 CONVERSION
  7. 351W CONVERSION.  LOTS OF COMMENTS ON OUR HEADERS
  8. NICE RESTORATION OF A 72 BOSS PINTO
  9. ANOTHER V8 CONVERSION.  I FORGOT THE ENGINE SIZE
Here are a few other cars that we noticed at the show

60's Ranchero with forced induction

nice custom wagon

70 Galaxie - similar to what our donor engine was from.  Big difference in weight.

20's Model A.  Yes that wood is real.

65 Mustang GT350H - Hertz rent a car

We need one for our gas pedal

Not the standard Shelby GT, This one has a 351W under the hood.

Interesting widebody kit for a fox body Mustang.  The tires were wide enough to fill them.

With in 10 minutes of being home,  The pinto let me know what it thought of the day.  It will most likely need the engine pulled to get to the oil pan to fix the leak.  Our best guess is that it was the rear seal that is leaking.  When we pull the engine, he and I will then work on the rest of the engine bay to make it as we want it for the contest.

This summer is going to be busy.
