July 24, 2005 - We did
not forget about the pinto...
AFTER AVOIDING THE CAR WITH HONEY DO PROJECTS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, WE
WERE FINALLY ABLE TO GET WORKING ON THE CAR AGAIN. WHILE IT WAS
HIBERNATING, I PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO THE ELECTRICAL GREMLIN THAT
WAS IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM. IT HAD TO DO SOMETHING WITH HOW THE
IGNITION BOX WAS WIRED TO THE CAR. WITH THE HELP FROM A
NEIGHBOR WHO PROVIDED A WIRING DIAGRAM FOR THE IGNITION SYSTEM THAT
CAME WITH HIS WIRING FOR HIS EARLY BRONCO, I TRIED ALL COMBINATIONS OF
WIRES TO GET IT TO WORK. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO START AND RUN
ONLY WHILE THE STARTER WAS ENGAGED. WHAT WE ENDED UP DOING WAS
INSTALLING A
HEI
TYPE DISTRIBUTER.
WITH ONLY ONE WIRE AND THE ELIMINATION OF THE FORD IGNITION SYSTEM,
THERE SHOULD BE NO ISSUES. WE ALSO INSTALLED THE OIL LINE FOR THE
TRIPLE GAGE SET IN THE ORIGINAL OIL SENSOR LOCATION.

TO MAKE THE CAR A LITTLE EASIER TO WORK ON, WE PUT IT UP ON JACK STANDS
IN FRONT AND RAMPS IN THE BACK.

THE EXCITEMENT OF THE WORK ON THE CAR WAS TOO MUCH FOR MY NEW PIT
ASSISTANT TO HANDLE AND SHE HAD TO BE TAKEN AWAY.

NOW YOU CAN SEE THE PROBLEM. HERE YOU CAN SEE THE AIR CLEANER AND
IT IS DEFINITELY ABOVE THE HOOD LINE, BUT IN FRONT OF THAT IS THE NEW
ADDITION, THE DISTRIBUTER. IT NOW IS ABOVE THE HOOD LINE AND WILL
REQUIRE US TO RETHINK THE HOOD. WE WERE GOING TO USE A SCOOP FROM
A 76 MUSTANG 2, BUT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL NEED A LARGER
SCOOP. FOR SEVERAL REASONS, WE WILL MOST LIKELY INSTALL A COWL
INDUCTION HOOD SCOOP THAT WILL NEED TO BE MODIFIED TO FIT THE
CAR. AS TIME PERMITS, HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO FINISH THE
INSTALL OF THE TRIPLE GAGE SET AND IGNITION WIRING. WISH US
