The PROMISE Group is holding its fourth annual Celebration of Hispanic Education ceremony on Saturday 6/2/12 from 4:30-6:15pm on the second floor
of Martin Chapel on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University. At this event, graduating seniors will receive college
scholarships and two community leaders will be honored for their contributions to education and to community service. Raul
Diaz, manager of Merck's Stonewall plant in Elkton, VA will share his reflections on the importance of education. A reception
follows the formal program.
La cuarta Celebración de Educación Hispana se llevará a cabo el 2/6/12 de las 16:30h hasta las 18:15h
en la Martin Chapel dentro de Eastern Mennonite University. Se presentarán los becarios de este ciclo y se honrarán a dos
personas por sus contribuciones a la educación y a servicio comunitario. El Sr. Raúl Díaz, gerente de la planta local de Merck,
compartirá sus reflexiones sobre la importancia de educación en nuestra sociedad. Se brinda una recepción tras el programa
formal.

Mission Statement
The PROMISE Group is a volunteer organization that provides support for teenagers, young adults, and their families in the
city of Harrisonburg and in Rockingham County. The group aspires to assist students enrolled in area schools, technical centers,
community colleges, and four-year colleges and universities. We aim to extend motivational support, information, and financial
assistance that can help interested students to finish high school and to explore educational and career options after high
school. While we are particularly interested in improving educational outcomes for the Latino student population, the PROMISE
Group wants to expand the level of assistance for all area students.

Declaración de Principios
El Grupo PROMISE es una organización de voluntarios que provee apoyo a adolescentes, a jóvenes y a sus familias en la ciudad
de Harrisonburg y el Condado de Rockingham. Este grupo desea ayudar a los estudiantes que están matriculados, ya sea en las
escuelas del área, centros técnicos o universidades de 2 o 4 años de duración. Nuestro objetivo es el de dar apoyo, motivar,
informar y asistir al estudiante interesado en terminar su secundaria, y ayudarlo a explorar sus opciones educativas y profesionales
después de terminar su secundaria. Aunque estamos interesados especialmente en mejorar los resultados educativos de las minorías
raciales y étnicas, el Grupo PROMISE quiere aumentar el nivel de ayuda para todos los estudiantes del área.
