Weather

The Twin-Cities had an impressive amount of snow over Halloween weekend. There were 27 inches on Halloween itself, and by the time the weekend was over we had over 31 inches. Just about all of it melted by mid-November, but we’ve had a fresh 30 inches since. With any luck we’ll break the record this season!

Recession hits family

Pete Hangs in There

Julie started the year with her job divided between Humanities/Social Science Reference and Minitex at the University of Minnesota. In mid-October, however, her temporary position with the Humanities/Social Science Reference Unit was terminated because of state budget cuts. Another half-time position opened up at Minitex at about that time, but because of our “education governor’s” vetoes Minitex does not have the funding to pay for benefits, so Julie is working full-time only through January; she will go to half-time in February. Pete, on the other hand, has become a permanent employee at Western National Mutual Insurance (doing clerical work-ugh!). He has been taking computer courses and will start more linguistics courses in the coming year (yay!).

The dance goes on ...

A shortage of time was noted in Schult circles this year due to massive amounts of dancing. Scattered morris dancing (an English tradition) was seen throughout the year with heavy concentrations between May Day and Labor Day. Morris ales carried Julie & Pete to Chicago in October and Julie to Toronto in August. Sword dancing pushed Julie to New York City in February to dance in the Battery, was scarce in the summer, and returned with vigor in the fall. International dancing, which had not been seen in quite a while, has returned in moderate concentrations.

Uni reunion

Julia introduced Pete to her entire high School (just about) at a University High School reunion in Urbana, Illinois in May. Pete enjoyed meeting many of the people he has heard so many stories about. No one knows who won the softball game.

Wedding bells

Julie Schult & Pete Dombrowsky were wed on July 6, 1991 in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by friends and family in Minneapolis. The wedding was followed by a short reception and then a picnic in the park which included dancing and FrisbeeTM.

Highlights included a song written by our friends Laurie and Tom, some unforgettable toasts, a very nice reading by Danny & Nancy Schult, and a congratulatory paper roll for all to sign, plus many other events too numerous to mention. Officiating was the Rev. Richard Lundy who married Julie’s parents 15 years ago.

A second reception was held in Geneva, New York one week later at which Julie had a second opportunity to wear her wedding dress. Pictures and videos were also shared with her East Coast relatives.

Honeymoon rises over Québec

Pete & Julia visited Québec during the week after their wedding. Pete learned some French, and Julie enjoyed the Old City of Québec with its scenery and history. They saw the Aquarium and Montmorency Falls, which is comparable with Niagara for majesty and beauty.
