WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ENVIRONMENT
We do suggest a well-prepared environment where the child can explore and access many different types of activities.    Low shelves--where a child can see the lessons and handle the items easily--are ideal.    Also, flashcards can be placed in view where the child can point and ask for them.    The environment should be safe and friendly, where he can express his independence and creativity as much as possible.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BRAIN DEVELOPMENT
The child's right brain development is supported best in an environment of love and acceptance.    Children ages 0-3 will develop highly sensitive right brain function when exposed gently to learning concepts and then allowed ample time to play with them. Left brain development occurs mainly when the corpus callosum, a band of nerve fibers which connects the right and left hemisphere of the brain, is developed enough to begin transferring information back and forth between hemispheres.    Before that time, the infant largely works out of the right brain.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:    Many infants develop their right brain intuition naturally in a home environment without any "special lessons" at all!    Infants who are loved, encouraged to interact with nature, caring people and creative projects will feel secure and happy--the best start the right brain can get!

Yet left brain development is important, too, and when sensitively combined with right brain development, can boost whole brain learning.

RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM TIMES/ACTIVITIES

Much one-on-one lesson time can be considered more left-brain structured play.    For this reason, you do not want to exceed a certain amount of time per day.    The recommended maximum times are listed below, but remember each child is unique and develops according to a highly personal timetable.    When determining activities--what to teach, when and for how long--FOLLOW THE CHILD.

Newborns, 0-6 months........up to 2-10 minute lessons per day.
No videos.    We suggest tuning forks, black and white visual imaging cards, colors, foreign language tapes/cds, and flashcards.

Infants 6-12 months.........up to 2-15 minute lessons per day.
Use videos sparingly--videos with gentle images and sound only.    (All videos sold through our company are fine for use with infants.)    We suggest tuning forks, black and white visual imaging cards, colors, foreign language tapes/cds, and flashcards.

Infants 12-18 months........up to 2-15 minute lessons per day.
Use all parts of the program.    Reinforce concepts learned from flashcards with matching cards.    Watch for signs of disinterest.    If child feels pushed, stop that part of the program.    If child is excited about another aspect of development (walking, running, talking, play), his attention may temporarily wane in terms of lesson time.    Give child plenty of time to play, learn from his environment, speak with you, help with household chores and feel like an important valued part of his family.

Toddlers 18-24 months.......up to 2-15 minute lessons per day.
Same as above.    You may begin asking a child questions about the flashcards he has seen.

Toddlers 25-30 months.......up to 40 minutes per day in total lesson time.
Same as above.    Introduce arts and crafts, writing, drawing, memory play.    Also begin word-building with phonics.

Toddlers 31-36 months....... up to 40 minutes per day in total lesson time.
Same as above.    If child is ready, actively play with word-building, sentence-building, math equations, and left brain critical thinking games.
