Cultural Evolution Culture is nature's method which enables our species to adapt quickly to changing environments. Cultural adaptation proceeds 10,000 times faster than the rate of genetic adaptation. Cultural adaptations can be successful or a failure. Cultural adaptation need not be a random affair. We have the intelligence to direct it through the education of children. US Culture and the world Swingers, polyamourous, polygamist. I believe that as we eliminate disease, perfect birth control and mature as a species sooner or later the norm will be polyamourous swingers. The world looks toward America for leadership. If the American people begin a successful cultural innovations the world will too. Consumerism Consumerism is the cultural norm in which America encourages, trains and in some instances forces it's citizens to consume 50% of the world's resources. Minimize consumerism this concept has recently gained fame in several book and goes under the name of simplified living. This is a generalization of the camping principal which states that when camping you should leave only your footprints. When applied to society the principals says you should by only buy what is really needed. In a world with more and more people I think this a moral principal which will be followed in the future. ItÍs our choice whether it will be voluntary or mandatory. Puritan Ethic The puritan ethic is a belief system designed to control female reproduction. The ethic is outdated because genetic testing has made the concerns addressed by this belief system obsolete. The thinking of some people that the human body or sexuality is bad or evil and should be hidden from others must be some type of psychological disorder which they will discover in the future. The disorder is caused by delaying children's exposure to sex. In societies which expose children to sex early, seeing but not doing gives the children a much more natural view of sex, they don't have the problems of rape etc., that we have. Big taboo , don't let the children see sex. Nudity at home rule. Children in our culture In Indigenous cultures children become adults around the age of 13 which coincides with the awaking biological drives of puberty. In western cultures adult status has been delayed until 18. So at the same time that children's biological drives are starting we display sex all over tv then tell the children to have no sex because your parents have artificially delay your mental development Mrs. Clinton says it takes a village to raises children and she is definitely right but we have no more villages. A village is composed of members usually related by blood, live in close proximity, depend upon each other for survival and have know each other for many years. Today to have a village you must create one. Cultural Engineering Cultural Briefly the principles are: 1) The fundamental biological driving force in our society is the perpetuation of the species. 2) Cultural adaptations can be either positive or negative. The major problems in our society are a result of maladaptive behaviors generated by outdated erroneous belief systems. 3) Societies resist fundamental changes of cultural norms, regardless of the fact that existing behaviors can cause a collapse of the civilization. Social momentum , how to effectively alter our present path. To change a culture inject a large enough successful subculture into it. 4) Fundamental changes in society occur slowly because of majority vote and rapidly because of visionary individuals who introduce innovative ideas or of economic necessity. The limit of the rapidity of culture change is limited to the time it takes to raise the next generation. 5) Any effort to change society is most effective if more individuals in the society benefit from the change than those who are threatened by the change . It's easiest to lead people where they're already going. Feeling of its critical to go forward so I need to take a more active role in changing society.
