I believe that all humans are smart. By today's standards everone born today could have a 200+-IQ given the care and stimulus.

How everyone used to educate children

In indigenous societies children are taught from birth. Infants stay with the mom 24-7, the games children play are related to the life skills they will need. And typically the children sleep with mom.

Education, what's wrong?

Our Educational system designed to produce factory workers hasn't adapted to our changing society and the needs of the technical labor market. Fix it don't waste time and effort on finding who to blame

TV and it's commercials - Millions of children waste thousand of hours of their most critical learning years unproductively entertained in front of the TV. Modern commercials which generally have nothing to do with the products they promote generate millions in sales. The effect of TV is brainwashing ourselves and our children to be gluttonous consumers. How could psychologist ever entertain the idea that TV violence doesn't have the same effect? TV is a very powerful media which is having a devastating effect on child development. TV should be banned for children, period. Of course in our current culture it will never happen.

What can be done?

We need to modernize our current k-12, system. Children are separated into age groups and within age groups subject levels. Each Child's instructition should be individualized to their particular learningstyle.

We need to start school much earler, prenatally or at the latest at birth. While in the womb the fetus is exposed to auditory stimulus such as being talked to and classical music. A good product is an audio system that will clarify the sounds reaching the fetus. Simular to flexible computer controlled mirrors used by astronomers

President Clinton says all student should be able to read by 8. This is too little to late. He should have said all children should read by age two. I agree with his stance on educational standards, it's just common sense, but watch and see how resistant the education beuocracy will be to this change. Their resistance is also justified because children can only learn so much per unit year . U.S. children enter the educational system, typically a 6, at levels of up to 4 years apart.

Holistic Education starts with prenatal education for all children starting after the 1st month after inception continuing until 12 years old or passing of the GED.

This could cost a lot, is it worth it?

Education is the key. According to sociologist's statistics education reduces the social evils of crime, abortion, hunger, poverty and ignorance which all are most highly correlated to educational level. We can't eliminate all of it but we can majorly reduce these evils in our society

How Backward is the Government?? So why hasn't the government fully funded the Head Start program?

Mrs. Clinton says it takes a village to raise children and she is definitely right but we have no more villages. A village is composed of members usually related by blood, live in close proximity, depend upon each other for survival and have know each other for many years. Today to have a village you must create one.
