Representative Democracy is the best form of government. As any form of government it does have it's weaknesses. In the USA these are demonstrated by the influence of money, corrupt politicians and incompetent voters
With the majority of voters reading and thinking at an eighth grade level it's no wonder that we have problems. How can voters have the time to research the technical issues regarding the environment.
In a democracy social change can't be done quickly at a fundamental level by politics. Politicians can't bring forth the changes that are needed being beholden to their political cronies and the will of the majority. The majority of people in a democracy are mediocre at best which result in a mediocre government. Each year since the 1960's politicians new speak, telling voters they'll make things wonderful and every year things have gotten worse.
