OCTO BLACKSTAR VW CLASSIC WEEKEND
blackstar7.jpgThis is the really big one. It comes around once a year in June and people come from all over the world to attend. The events go on all week way to many to get to all of them. I was only able to make the Big 3. Maybe next year I'll include the DKP and the Berg cruise. Let me first say God be with you Mark Herbert may you rest in peace. Mark lost his life last weekend tragically in a car accident leaving one of the events. I didn't know Mark personally but I feel the loss just the same. My condolences go out to his family and the other victim involved it was a shock to hear about. I started my weekend at OCTO, held at the Long Beach Veterans Stadium. There was so much to see and so many people to talk too, I missed probably half of it. The SV2s booth was cooking up Carne Asada and Fred was there cooking his brats. P&C were going through the swaps picking up some good buys. Jesse James made an appearence. The weather was cool in the morning breaking to warm sun in the afternoon. It was a great show lots to see and do. When it was over we all headed out to Blackstar to camp for the night. We made a stop at the Verizon in Irvine to secure our club spot on the lawn for the big show Sunday. Then spent the rest of the afternoon realxing. My bus was giving me shifting trouble so my good friends from Yuma helped me out. Kenny adjusted the clutch a little which made it better. Thanx Kenny. Allways good to see these guys. I remember my first year camped with them on the hill at Irvine Lake. Then we all drove into the Classic together thats were the friendship was formed. This is our 4th year together. You look forward to these events to see your friends from far places. Shin a reporter for "Lets Play VW" from Japan has made it every year as well. These events are really something to get people like shin from far away places. The VTO guys do an awesome job every year organizing and arranging this 4 day campout. It's alot of time energy and hard work and they do such a good job. We ate dinner and went to bed to get a good night sleep for the big day Sunday. Up early and off in another carabus into Irvine. Stopped for coffee at the 7-11 accross from the Verizon. The line of cars was all the way back to the freeway. It took us about 30 minutes to get in. On my way to park I stopped to say hey to Mike and Lisa they wern't being allowed to put up thier awning. So they moved over to the club area on the lawn problem solved awning up. Allthough there an awning wasn't needed. We scored the only shaded spot in the entire place. Wow this was cool because as usual it turned out to be another scorcher. I spent most of this show sitting in the shade so I missed alot of cars. But it was great just hanging with your best friends all day. Now its over and time to go. Tyrone was leaving and asked if I was going so I went home with Jay, Tyrone and some of the West Coast Wolfpack. Its allways fun to see the looks on peoples faces when they go by a long line of old VW's. Well till we meet again Drive Safe.
