History/Special Moments

1963-WEEP Radio Station.  Sal's first experience helping the producer of La Voce Italiana, Mr. Affatigato.
1964-One of the first guests of Carosello Italiano, Rita Pavone.
1966-Sal with Emilio Pericoli, one of few Italian artists to break into the American chart with his #1 hit song " Al di La."
1969-Sal with Robertino, a popular artist of the Sixties.
1970-Sal interviewing Giacono Rondinella, a successful Neapolitan singer and actor.  Rondinella co-starred in many films with the young Sophia Loren.
1971-Sal gets down to business with Gianni Morandi after a soccer game.
1972-Sal visits with Albano during their stay in Cleveland.
1972-Romina Power responds to Sal's interview questions.
1970-Sal and "Il Reuccio della Canzone Italiana" (the Little King of Italian Music) while they discuss the results of the Sanremo Festival.

Louiselle-A well known singer with several big hits-among them, "Senza Le Scarpe e Domani e'Festa."
1972-Sal poses with Nicola Di Bari, one of Italy's best known musicians of the Seventies. 
1973-Sal accompanies Mino Reitano into the theater just before his performance in Pittsburgh.
1976-Sal behind one of the cameras at the studio where he hosted Pittsburgh's only Italian TV broadcast.  The show "Italia Oggi" aired on Sunday's from 12:00 to 12:30 PM and remained on the air for four years.
1975-Sal was included on the WPGH billboard advertisement which was displayed throughout the city of Pittsburgh.  These billboards featured the hosts of local programs.

In that occasion, Sal had the chance to meet and interview il grand Lucio Battisti, Don Backy, Gian Pieretti, Riccardo del Turco, Pino Donaggio e I Ribelli.

 
1978-Sal interviews Giovanna. 
1981-WKPA radio station.  Sal and WKPA's general manager discuss a telethon.  In only two programs, this event raised $11,664.44 for victims of an earthquake in Campania.  The money was sent to the Red Cross to assist those areas which were heavily damaged.  The generosity of Sal's listeners demonstrated the responsiveness and concern of the Italian community.
Toto Cutugno, one of the most successful Sanremo artists, was featured on Radio Italia on several occasions.  His song, "L'Italiano" is still one of the most requested songs in the history of Radio Italia. 
Umberto Tozzi prepares for his concert in Pittsburgh.  His songs, "Gloria," Ti Amo," and "Tu" have had success in the American charts with the help of Laura Branigan's translated version. 
1989-The Pittsburgh Opera Company had the honor of hosting another one of the world's great tenors.  Guiseppe Giacomini performed in the famous opera "I Pagliacci" along with the members of the Pittsburgh Opera Company.
1989-At Juno's Trattoria, Sal has the honor of speaking with the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti.  Mr. Pavarotti listens intently while Sal gives the day's soccer results.

Chevrolet Amphitheater at Station Square in 2003, live broadcast for the opening of the Italian Summer Festival.

Sal with the Tom Murphy, Mayor of Pittsburgh, during the 30th Anniversary celebration of Radio Italia. Over 400 persons enjoyed the dinner/dance.
