#3045 1/6 Daguerreotype, fine young dandy of a gentleman
|
|
Sixth plate (2 3/4" by 3 1/4") daguerreotype. A fine young
dandy of a gentleman. If he isn't a river boat gambler than I think most people would agree he is certainly what could be
pictured as one. The hat, mustache, pinkie ring and overall persona of being able to handle any "rowdy" situation all contribute
to the gambler attribution. Housed in a worn case with a crude spine repair.
CONDITION: the re-silvered plate is in overall great condition. Tarnish as seen, one small mark to the left of his index
finer on his hand on the right. When the plate is viewed in the negative one small brown spot on his cheek and one on his
hat are revealed. Resealed by a previous owner. (NOTE: re-silvered refers to a process done by the daguerreotypist to add
an extra layer of silver to the plate before the image was exposed. This is generally believed to have been done to achieve
a superior plate surface, hence a better quality daguerreotype.)
