The induction of five former MHS football players and a honorary member, increased the list of the MHS Football Hall of Fame. This years inductees are Cyril Bellavance(31), Donald Hill(41), Geoff Stearns(59), Fred Vallett(65), Elmars Reks(77), and Al DeSimone.
Cyril Bellavance(1931)
Bellavance, the former Mansfield fire chief, was captain of the 1930 team. He was a fleet-footed back who was impossible to contain. Whenever there were team injuries he played center and guard. He was Vice-president of the 1930 and 1931 classes. He was captain of basketball (30/31) and played on two Hockomock champion teams.
Donald Hill(1941)
Hill earned nine letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He was an outstanding quarterback, always gave fans something to talk about and was an excellent punter. In football and baseball he was All- Bristol. In 1941 he received MHS Most Outstanding Athlete Award.
Geoff Stearns(1959)
Stearns joins his father Herbert Stearns(31) who was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1982. Geoff was always opening gaping holes and throwing key blocks. He was the first 1,000 point scorer in MRS basketball history. He is a graduate of Colgate, Harvard, and Clark University.
Fred Vallett(1965)
A two-time All-Hockomock selection, Vallett was a quarterback who was impossible to contain and kept the defense on their toes. Fred earned eleven letters in football, basketball, baseball and track. A shoulder injury/surgery ended his football career at Dean College.
Elmars Reks(1977)
In 1975, Reks was an All-Hock defensive end and a fullback in 1976. He was All-Scholastic in the Boston Globe, Sun Chronicle and the Taunton Gazette. He was "King of The Hockomock and The Latvian Express". Elmars, with a full athletic scholarship, graduated from Holy Cross.
Al DeSimone (Friend)
DeSimone was selected by the Gridiron Club directors and trustees for his many years of community service. In football he coached at Central Junior High School, was a charter member (1970) of Pop Warner, started the Gridiron Club in 1992, and has been a volunteer coach at Mansfield High since 1991.
