Five former players were recently inducted into the Mansfield High School football Hall of Fame.
Kenneth Colby(88), Pat DePillo(80), Albert Sankey(34), Joe Sankey(33) and James Tarte(48) were inducted in a ceremony held on Dec.10 1998.
Joe Sankey (1933)
Joe was a three-year starter at halfback and a member of the '31 undefeated (8-0-1) Hornets.
Sankey, who also played baseball, served in the U.S. Army from 1954-47 in World War II. Sankey was a Mansfield police officer
and worked for 27 years with the Foxboro Company before retiring in 1981.
Albert Sankey (1934)
Brother Albert was a three-year starter as a center, defensive end and fullback. Albert, also a
baseball and basketball standout, blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the famous 1933 triumph over Stoughton.
Albert is married with two sons, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pat DePillo(1980)
Pat a four-year starter who starred at tight end, defensive tackle and linebacker, was a 1980 graduate. DePillo, a two-time
Sun Chronicle all-star, currently works for the Mansfield Water Department.
Kenneth Colby(1988)
Ken played quarterback and tailback, was 1987 Division 3 Player of the Year. Colby' rushed for 1,374
yards and 17 touchdowns. Colby, an assistant coach for King Philip, received a scholarship to the University of New Haven,
where he earned a degree in Business Administration.
James Tarte(1948)
Jim did a little bit of everything, catching touchdowns, throwing touchdowns, and returning interceptions
for touchdowns. Tarte, who played four seasons for North Central College in Illinois, is one of the founders of the Mansfield Little
League and the Mansfield Council on Aging.
