For the Mansfield High football team, it was a night to honor the present and remember the past. On the eve of their Super Bowl win over Swampscott in the Div. 3 championship, the Gridiron Club of Mansfield held the 2003 Mansfield High Football Recognition Banquet at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, Dec. 11 2003.
Coach Redding thanked the hall of famers, two of whom he coached during their careers. "You built the foundation of what Mansfield football is today," said Redding. Inducted to the Mansfield High Gridiron Club Hall of Fame were David Piasecki, Jack Todesco, Jamie Sullivan, Omari Walker, Richard Robinson and George Blomstrom.

David Piasecki;

Dave was an outstanding scholar-athlete during his career at Mansfield High before graduating in 1960. He played halfback for four years and was an outstanding runner and tackler for the Hornets.
He went on to attend Bates College and then was a teacher at Apponequet High School for 20 years. Piasecki was the head football and baseball coach there, guiding the Lakers to three championships.
His father, Henry, is the No.1 fan of the Hornets and a longtime booster of the program.

Jamie Sullivan:

When he was at Mansfield High, Sullivan was a four-sport varsity player for the Hornets and a big part of the 1992 Super Bowl winning team.
He started as a freshmen kicker (finished with 78 PAT's for his career). Sullivan went on to become one of the best offensive and defensive linemen in the history of Mansfield High football before graduating in 1993.
"Jamie and Omari (Walker) are two of the best people I've had the opportunity to coach," said Redding. "They are great young men."
An outstanding student, Sullivan went on to play at Harvard before a back injury ended his career in 1994.
Now, he is a market analyst for Digex Inc in Beltsville, MD. and lives in Washington, D.C.

Omari Walker:

Walker is regarded as one of the best players ever to wear the green. In his senior year in 1992, he was a dominating player, rushing for 1,295 yards on only 148 carries, averaging 8.8 every time he touched the ball. He scored 24 rushing touchdowns, three on pass receptions, and one off a kickoff return and a 33-yard punt return in the Super Bowl win over Winthrop.
After his high school career Omari went on to Boston College were he was an outstanding running back earning first team All New England honors, first team All Big East and capturing the Big East rushing tide in 1996.
What Walker has done off the field is even more impressive. In 1994, he co-founded DIVERSE (Diverse Individuals Vowing Everlasting Responsibility for Superior Education) and is a teacher and program administrator at Framingham High where he directs a mentoring and tutoring program. In 2000, he was recognized as a teacher of the year by Wal-Mart.

Richard Robinson:

Robinson was a key player on the 1935 Bristol County championship team as an outstanding guard. The 1936 graduate was very tough for offenses to block on defense.
He lives in Florida and was unable to attend the banquet. His nephew, Peter Lovely, accepted the award for him.

George Blomstrom:

If there was something to be done on the football field, chances are Blomstrom did it. The 1951 graduate played offensive guard for three years and also played defense and did the kickoffs. He also played in the school's orchestra.
Blomstrom now lives in Harrisburg, VA, and lectures at the Romanian American University in Romania.

Jack Todesco:

Jack Todesco, a 1981 graduate, was known for playing hard all of the time for the Hornets where he earned all-star honors as both a junior and a senior. He was one of those players who never gave up on a play. Todesco was known as a fierce and tenacious competitor.
Todesco is now the owner of Todesco Plumbing and Heating.

To assist in researching in many areas like future Hall of Fame members, a Gridiron Club Library has been established and we would appreciate receiving any scrapbooks, photographs (especially of the team) or newspaper articles concerning the football team. We would accept them as a donation or for reproducing. We guarantee their safety and return.
